Chair Charles Aguillon called the meeting to order at 6:00 p m. The late start was due to the length of the subcommittee meeting that took place before the board meeting. B. There were no announcements regarding upcoming events. C. [here were no citizens wishing to address the Board. D. Consideration and approval of minutes of October 26, 2010. Mandy moved to accept the minutes as distributed; second by Eric. Motion passed unanimously. E. Consideration of and possible action on 1. Southwestern University/3M grant, art selection. committee - Eric Lashley. Eric announced that he had not been able to schedule a meeting of the selection committee yet because the Parks Board did not choose Bob Laemel to be their representative until their meeting on November 11. Mary Visser of Southwestern has agreed to serve on the committee and will select a student to serve. Because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Eric doesn't expect the committee will meet until after December 1. 2. Georgetown Sculpture Tour additions, map, brochure - Dar Richardson, Judy Fabry. Dar announced that he had calculated the worth of the borrowed sculptures on display in Georgetown to be approximately $750,000, which is a remarkable display of art for a very small investu tent. There was some discussion about the sculpture that was stolen, Pokey Park's bronze frog, I've Been Kissed. Judy and Eric have been working with the Sun to advertise the loss and with the police to try to recover the piece. The City's insurance will cover the loss if necessary, but the City will have to pay the $5,000 deductible. Judy distributed copies of the Board's budget expense summary and the revised map of the Sculpture Tour that Kendell Joseph had created (appended to and made a part of these minutes) She said she'd received a quote of $1200 from Geoff Hammond to take pictures of the new sculptures, that Cari Miller had been able to contribute less to the cost of creating a brochure for the tour than she'd originally suggested, and that the Board has only about $2200 left to work with for the brochure project. Mandy suggested that instead of printing a brochure, the Board should ask the Georgetown View to do an article about the sculpture tour. That way, information about the sculptures would reach every residence in Georgetown. Karen then announced that she very recently has begun writing for the View and that she would propose the article to the editor. All members present agreed that the magazine article seemed to be a much better idea than spending money for a brochure. 3. Application for Cultural District Designation — Charles Aguillon. Charles had nothing new to report about the application. 4. Schedule for future meetmgs — Judy Fabry Judy said she had just received word from the City Secretary s office about whose terms would be expiring in February. All will expire except Dar's and Mandy s. To rebalance the staggering of term ends, the Secretary had recommended that Charles Aguillon's replacement should be given only a one-year term unless some other member preferred to apply for just a one-year tetiu. Judy will email application blanks to all of the members whose terms are ending and are eligible to reapply. Charles adjourned the meeting at 6:28 p.m. Respectfully submitted, i/ Jody Fabry, Acting Secretary Charles Aguillon, Chair L_J Arts and Culture Board Expenses, FY 08-09, 09-10, 10-11 Date __ _ Description _fidget Designati Amount Balance 10/1/2008 88,718 00 10/7/2008 Jim Wear 4Admin 40000 88,318.00 Jim Wear consultation 10/23/2008 CityofGtwn Admin 25.00 88,293.00 buildingermitfor scul ture edestal 11/30/2008 Red Po Cafe Admin 100.07 88,192.93 lunch for Jim Wear workshop 11/30/2008 Solutions Admin 22.94 88,169.99 anchoringmaterial for acrylic soul lure 12/12/08 Yours for Keeps Admin 54.24 86,115.75 donor latas for artwork 12/31/08 Walker Display CPA 141.75 87,974.00 additional hangin system equipment (library) 01/31/09 Wildfire Admin 35.35 87,938.65 lunch with Juli Fellows Eric & Ruth 02/12/09 Jul! I would like to offer that my services can be paid (at least partially) in other forms. For instance, I am interested in renting the meeting rooms, Hewlett and Friends, on the weekend of the 29-30 January for a photography workshop. Perhaps there is something in there that we can negotiate? Or if you have businesses who donate their product to the library, like a framer or printer or other relevant service/product, you may use those as part payment and reduce the actual cash portion of the bill. Or if the artists were willing to purchase the photos from me, I could credit the sales of that to the cost of photography. • I'd like to work with you to help out as much as I can, so I hope these may give you some alternatives that don't cut into your budget. I look forward to your reply, Geoff Hammond photographer (512)864-5963 geohammondovi.com www.hammondovi.com hammondovi.wordpress.com www.istocki)hoto.com/hammondovi On Nov 8, 2010, at 3:30 PM, iudy.fabrynggeorgetown.org wrote: Cari Miller and I are investigating how much money we can pull together for this project. The Arts and Culture Board received no money from the City Council this year, so we are running on the fumes of what is left from the budget we were given two years ago. Cari has offered to "help" us, but I'm afraid what she can contribute won't cover the grand idea we had nine months ago. I'm writing this now not to say that we can't use your services, but to prepare you for a pared down project. We have 18 additional sculptures (minus the one that was stolen) to photograph. Would you work up an estimate/bid for what your charge would be for just the photography? From: Paul Brandenburg/City of Georgetown 0: Districtl/City of Georgetown@City of Georgetown Date: Thursday, November 11, 2010 12:56PM Subject: Arts Question Patty, any available space downtown for an Arts Center or an Arts and Culture Center is hinged on the future and status of the Police Department. - The City purchased 20 acres off of DB Woods Rd for Fire Station #5 (3 acres) and a Public Safety Complex and Training Facility ( 17 acres for Police Department and Fire Admin, as well as training for both divisions). - The Fire Station is a go and we would now like to pursue the police side of the facilities. - We have a Workshop with Council to discuss this on November 23rd ( we waited on purpose as not to jeopardize the school bond or confuse the voters). - We may be in position to go to a bond election in the Spring of 2011 on the Public Safety Complex. 0 If the bond passes , PD would vacate their current space within two years. Municipal Court uld more then likely move into the Old Library. Old PD Station could potentially be used for Arts and Culture. - If the bond fails , PD would then look at either splitting operations into the Old Library, or if still available at that time, the Old Albertson's. - We also can not move anything right now into the Old Library because the Police may need it. While a split operations is not ideal, it is the cheapest option if the bond would fail. This is still very preliminary, and there are several moving parts but at least it gives you some idea what needs to transpire in order to open up space Downtown for the Arts. Thank you. Judy Fabry, a staff liaison for the Arts and Culture Board, said Thursday that members reported the large,135-pound bronze frog missing on Mon- day. She said police believe the thieves may have taken off with the sculpture sometime during the Halloween week- end. Eric Lashley, Georgetown Public Library director, said the sculpture, which is called "I've been kissed" is insured; however, if it is not recovered it could cost the city money to replace it.
