Building Standards Commission

Commissioners Present: Richard Lenning, Chair, Al Gaskell, Jon Carey, Ricki Young, Janet Tribble,
Stanley Bland, Riki Young
Commissioners absent: Kristopher Kopack, Ed Baxter, Ed Martin, Jim Moreland
Staff Present: Dave Hall, Patricia Rinehart, Larry Herrin
A regular meeting of the Building Standards Commission, for consideration and possible action on the
following:
Meeting called to order at 4:05 pm
Regular Session
1. Consideration of approval of the minutes from the regular Commission held on
August 18, 2005.
Motioned by Commissioner Lenning to approve the minutes from the August 18, 2005 meeting.
Seconded by Commissioner Bland. Motion Approved 5-0.
2. Election of a Vice Chairman for the Building Standards Commission.
Chairman Lenning recommended the board ask Ed Martin to serve as Vice Chairman.
Motioned by Commissioner Bland. Second by Riki Young.
3. Election of a Secretary for the Building Standards Commission.
Chairman Lenning recommended the board ask Kristopher Kopack to serve as Secretary.
Motioned by Commissioner Bland. Second by Riki Young.
Dave Hall welcomed new members and discussed the orientation and video on Ethics which is
required to receive certificate.
4. Executive Session
(Commission reserves the right to convene into Executive Session at any time during the
meeting regarding any agenda item. In compliance with the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551
Government Code, Vernon’s Texas Code, Annotated, the item below will be discussed in closed
session.)
Section 551.071 consultation with attorney. None

5. Action from Executive Session. None
6. Discussion and update of the Dangerous Building Ordinance for the City of Georgetown,
Texas.
Dave Hall discussed requirements of State Law and suggested updating the ordinance on
Dangerous Structures on notifying the owner and how to contact them in a more effiencent way
and discussed the procedures used in notifying the property owner and the proper way to proceed
legally which covers some specific guidelines.
7. Discussion and possible action regarding the future schedule, review and update of the
City of Georgetown Electrical Ordinance from the 2002 National Electrical Code to the
2005 National Electrical Code and Electrical Licensing registration requirements in order
to be presented to the City of Georgetown City Council for consideration and future
adoption.
Commissioner Bland recommended this item to be discussed and the board to review the 2005
Electrical Code and possible adoption. He said the State along with other communities has
already adopted the 2005 Electrical Code. He suggested as previously that we automatically
adopt the code when the State adopts an ordinance. Commissioner Bland attended several
meetings which discussed the ordinance and saw no drastic changes.
Chair Lenning recommended that Building Inspectors Larry Herrin and Mark Moore look over
the 2005 ordinance and make any recommendations and concerns within the code and bring
suggestions to the next meeting to discuss with board. Dave Hall stated that there were no
major changes from 2002 to 2005 which should help the process. Dave stated that if
everything is discussed at the next meeting then we can proceed with it to council soon.
Commissoner Gaskell asks that staff get draft copies to all members to view before the next
meeting.
8. Suggested items for next regularly scheduled meeting agenda.
Discussion and possible action for the review and update of the City of Georgetown Electrical
Ordinance from the 2002 National Elect rical Code to the 2005 National Electrical Code and
Electrical Licensing registration requirements in order to be presented to the City of
Georgetown City Council for consideration and future adoption.
Meeting adjourned at 5:40.
