A regular meeting of the Building Standards Commission, for consideration and possible action on the following:
Meeting called to order at 4:04 pm
Regular Session
1. Consideration of approval of the minutes from the regular Commission meeting held on
December 14, 2006.
Motioned by to approve the December 14, 2006 minutes. Seconded by Stanley Bland. Motion
approved 5-0.
Executive Session
(Commission reserves the right to convene into Executive Session at any time during the meeting
regarding any agenda item. In compliance with the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551 Government
Code, Vernon’s Texas Code, Annotated, the item below will be discussed in closed session.)
2. Section 551.071 consultation with attorney. None
Regular Session
3. Action from Executive Session. None
4. Consideration and possible action concerning violations and noncompliance with the Dangerous
Structure Ordinance of the City of Georgetown on the structure located at the property described
as Block 9 (Lots 1,2,7,8, and N/P of 3 & 4), .9363 acres located in the North Georgetown Addition
to the City of Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas, located at 206 E. Valley, Georgetown,
Texas, whether owners of said structure and/or the City of Georgetown shall be ordered to repair,
remove or demolish said building within a specified period of time, and to issue such other
orders as the Commission may deem necessary related to remedying the dangerous conditions.
The City of Georgetown’s Chief Code Enforcement Officer showed a video presentation of the
Dangerous Structure at 206 E. Valley, Georgetown, Texas.
Commissioner Ed Martin questioned if the City of Georgetown had contacted to original owners.
Barbara Quirk with the City Attorney’s office stated that the original owners were deceased and the
children were contacted.
City Attorney stated that if the Board approves the Dangerous Structure to be removed they do not
need owner’s approval.
Chairman Lenning asks Mr. Billy Whitfield to speak on behalf of the family. He stated that he is
already proceeding to have this structure removed and is requesting the board. Commissioner
Martin ask Mr. Whitfield about the consideration of the family donating the land to the City for
parkland use which Mr. Whitfield stated was being discussed at this time. The children would like
to see it become a community park with their parents name on it.
Commissioner Bland requested a time line be given to Mr. Whitfield and family to have this structure
demolished. City Staff John Calhoun recommended sixty days of the day the permit is issued. Board
requested that this property be secured during this process.
Motion by Stanley Bland. Seconded by Ed Baxter . Motion approved 5-0.
