Kent Huntsman called meeting to order @ 4:02pm.
Presentation of the “Sports & Recreational Complex Concept” by Rus Petterman & Tom
Crawford:
Rus & Tom have formed a subcommittee from the EDC and are planning to have an eleven
member advisory board to continue with an idea of a Sports & Recreation Complex to be
potentially completed by Fall of 2008.
The desired location is off of I35 & the Innerloop (near the Candle Factory) due to the
seclusiveness of that non-residential area.
The desired inclusions are football, soccer and baseball stadiums. Recreation/youth fields, a GPD
Satellite station; an open-air expo center, an assembly hall; a rodeo and a variety of office spaces.
This will be a one-shared site with venues from the GISD, the City of Georgetown & Williamson
County.
Within the 2004 year they plan on continuing with a venue, a land plan, getting community input,
and completing a cost analysis of the project. To be continued in 2005 with a master plan
(design, financing, phasing plans) and have a bond election in 2005 or 2006. The proposal is to
follow this with the beginning of construction in 2206-2007 to open the site in the Fall of 2008
with the GHS Football home opener.
Their ‘guess-timated’ economic impact is $10,000,000.
Presentation made for a Co-op Advertising Request by Daniece Mulcahey regarding the
Georgetown Quilt & Stitchery Show taking place at the Community Center, March 27-28, 2004.
Motion made by Bill Lipscomb to grant $627 to cover bookmarks and the San Antonio
Weekender. Seconded by Scherry Chapman. No discussion. Approved.
Motion made by Ellen Weimer to approve December minutes. Seconded by John Wiley. No
discussion. Approved.
Open discussion on Williamson County “trying to buy” ALL the Draeger property and working
with the City of Georgetown on ‘what’ would go there. There was a December 30, 2003 vote
with no input form the City of Georgetown, of which only 3 of the 5 Commissioner’s were
present. A rescinding vote has been request and is not happening. The flip side to this is that
Georgetown is the County Seat and we want to remain so. This encourages growth, more jobs,

and more people downtown. John commented that would not mean overnight stays though.
Mike indicated that the sales tax collection would increase due to more shopping and eating
presence.
