Culver, Staff Liason Minutes Regular Meeting Youth Advisory Board Mission Statement The Georgetown Youth Advisory Board provides a means for youth to unite the community, promote healthy decisions and create leadership skills to create solutions for the benefit of all. 1.Board meeting called to order at 5:10 pm by Amanda Hanson- Emerson. 2.Brenda opens discussion on the upcoming Teen Forum December 8, 2007. The Forum will bring GYAB, the Georgetown Projects Youth Action Council, Student leaders together with Parks and Recreation Director, Kimberly Garrett to discuss the new Teen Center. There will be leadership training, initiatives, lunch, and then discussion on the Teen Center construction. Jacob makes a motion that GYAB participate, Melissa McNutt seconds. All in favor 9-0. 3. Jacob leads discussion on the Calendar with the upcoming Jingle Bell Social & Toy Drive on December 8, 2007, at the Recreation Center from 3-6 pm. 4.Brenda opens the discussion on the GYAB Retreat. Majority want the Retreat to be held in the Spring. April will be the month and a date will be set at the next meeting. 5. Brenda leads discussion on the Jingle Bells Social & Toy Drive. The event is for Special Needs individuals 15 years and up. Volunteers are needed as Santa's Helpers for this event. Kate motions that GYAB participate, Rachel McNutt seconds. All in favor 9-0- 6. Jacob Wolfman opens the discussion on the Haunted Hayride scene. The scary jack-in-the box scene will be made with large decorated boxes and the board members will meet on the 17th of October to decorate and prepare for the event. Brenda will be making a new GYAB calendar for the years activities for the next meeting. Next meeting will be October 2, 07. Possible retreat dates November 2-3, or 9-10, 2007. Boardmembers will check their calendars, Brenda will check with Rec. staff to ensure availability of staff. 6. Meeting called to order at 9:45 a.m. by Melissa McNutt. 2. The Board discusses setting the following goals: 1) Attend Parks & Rec. Board meeting and discuss the Teen Center Renovations, 2) Hosting the Back to School party at the pool, GCL and the Haunted Hayride, 3) Set up a GYAB website with City Staff that woud publicize GYAB and local youth activivties, 4) have a river cleanup project, 5) plan a November food drive 6) host dances at the Rec.6) plan some summer team building activities, plan a movie at the pool night. Kate motions to adopt goals, Melissa seconds. All in favor 8-0 3. Jacob opens Discussion and possible action on GCL and getting a list of interested bands from the school. Mlissa volunteers to put flyers in the school office. Amanda will make the announcment. The grouip will work on poster and flyers. 4. The report to City Council was discussed with a tenative April 3rd date to present a Powerpoint presentation with GYAB's goals, pictures, events and service highlighted. 5. Officers elections are held with the following Board memebers holding offices: Amanda Hanson- Emerson -Chairperson, Melissa McNutt -Vice-Chairperson, Rachel McNutt -Secretary, Kate Doocy - Treasurer, Jacob Wolfman - Seargent at Arms. 6. Georgetown City Limits iswill be April 20, 2007, in San Gabriel at the Gazebo from 7-11 p.m. Kate & Crystal will talk to the bands. Melissa & Amanda will make flyers. 4. Report to City Council discussed. Amanda motions that the Board will work on a Powerpoint presintation for the Council at the Retreat. Rachel seconds. All in Favor 9-0 5. Melissa motions that the Retreat be set for March 23 & 24, 2007, at the Recreatioon Center. Members complete their surveys and they will be sent to the Finance Department for review. 3. Meeting Minutes for 1/09/07 are reviewed. Kate Doocy makes a motion to approve the minutes, Will foster seconds. All in favor 9-0. 4. Amanda Emerson open the discussion on the Calendar, upcoming events: Cupid's Chase is Saturaday, February 10 meet at the Rec. Center for our water station assignment. February 17th is the Leading the Stampede Summitt in Fort Worth. The presentation to City Council will be onMarch 26, 2007, at Council Chambers. 5.Discussion and possible action on GYAB Retreat lead by Brenda. Meeting Minutes January 9, 2006 1.Candice Butler calls the meeting to order at 5:25 p.m. 2.Board reviews Meeting Minutes. Candice motions to approve the meeting Minutes for 11/07/06. Melissa seconds. All in favor. 3. Brenda opens discussion on the Calendar with the upcoming MLK service day and GYAB's participation. 14 members will be attending the event on Monday, January 15, 2007. GYAB has been invited to attend a Youth Commision Summit in Fort Worth. February 17-18, 2007, all members are encouraged to attend. The Board will only participate in the Saturday activities to keep expenses low. Memebers are asked to let Brenda know if they can attend by Friday January12, soreservations and travel arrangments can be made ASAP. 4. Discussion and possible action on GYAB Retreat lead by Brenda Culver. All members asked to check their schedules for a possible February date for the Retreat 5.
