A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS,
ESTABLISHING A FIREFIGHTERS' CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AND
APPOINTING THE INITIAL COMMISSIONERS OF THE FIREFIGHTERS' CIVIL
SERVICE COMMISSION
WHEREAS, in response to the City of Georgetown held an election on November 5, 2002, for the
purpose of seeking voter response to the proposition of "the adoption of the firefighters' civil service
law"; and
WHEREAS, the voters of the City of Georgetown passed the proposition and pursuant to state law,
Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code has been adopted establishing the City of
Georgetown Firefighters Civil Service Commission ("Commission"); and
WHEREAS, Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code requires the chief executive of the
municipality to appoint the members of the Commission within 60 days after the date Chapter 143 is
adopted; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code provides that the Civil Service
Commission shall consist of three (3) members appointed by the city's chief executive and confirmed
by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code provides that the initial appointments
shall be such that one member is designated to serve a one-year term, one member shall serve a two-
year term, and one member shall serve a three-year term; and
WHEREAS The Civil Service Commission will oversee the hiring and promotion process and serve as
a disciplinary appeal board for civil service employees in the Georgetown Fire Department, and perform
such other duties as set forth in Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Findings. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution
are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporatedby reference herein and
expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution
implements the ibilowing policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element:
1. Governmental Affairs Policy End 6.0, which states: "A high level of cooperation and
involvement exists among Georgetown's citizens and governmental organizations."
SECTION 2. Proceedings. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby establishes a
Civil Service Commission in compliance with the directives set forth in Chapter 143 of the Texas Local
Government Code.

SECTION 3. Appointment of Commissioners. The following persons are named oS the initial
Commissioners of the City of Georgetown Firefighters Civil Service Commission:

The terms Of each member shall be staggered such that one member ,
one member serves term, and one member serves o three-year term. +u their first meeting,
the Commissioners shall draw lots to determine which member shall serve for which term.
