OcZ / 1 - CC " A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION IN GEORGETOWN, TEXAS TO BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE GENERAL ELECTION ON MAY 5, 2001, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SEEKING VOTER RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION OF INCREASING THE SALES TAX IN THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN BY ONE- HALF OF ONE PERCENT. WHEREAS, the Georgetown City Council has called a General Election for Saturday, May 5, 2001; and WHEREAS, the Georgetown City Council has been provided with a recommendation from the Georgetown Citizens' Committee on Community Needs and Funding that the proposition should be put to the voters of Georgetown as to whether the sales tax should be increased by one -half of one percent to support the City's on -going transportation issues. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS THAT: SECTION I - VERIFICATION OF FACTS The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. SECTION 2 — CONFORMANCE WITH CENTURY PLAN The City Council has found that this action implements Governmental Affairs Focus End 15.01 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "All citizens actively participate in governmental functions;" and Transportation Policy End 10.00 which states: "Citizens and commercial goods move safely and efficiently throughout all parts of the City;" and has found that this action is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 3 - ISSUES This election shall be held to determine citizen approval for an additional one -half of one percent increase in sales tax to be used only for the City's on -going transportation issues and using a 413 Corporation. Special Election Resolution No. 01 - Page 1 of 2 Pages SECTION 4 - RESULTS The Williamson County Voter Registrar shall conduct an unofficial tabulation of results after the closing of the polls of the General Election on May 5, 2001. The official canvass and tabulation of the results of the Special Election shall be conducted by the City Council at a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at 6:00 p.m. in conjunction with the canvass and tabulation of the results of the General Election. SECTION 5 - EFFECTIVENESS OF RESOLUTION This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this 13th day of February, 2001.
