HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 200425-N - IH35 Highway LightingRESOLUTION l WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown has requested the State to contribute financial aid in the construction, maintenance and operation of a continuous highway lighting system on the freeway or expressway designated as Interstate highway 35 within the limits from State Highway 195 to BI 35 M (Lakeway) and; WHEREAS, the Executive Director, acting for and in behalf of the Texas Department of Transportation Commission, has made it known to the City of Georgetown that the State will construct said highway lighting system, with the condition that the City of Georgetown, as provided in Section 25.11 of the Texas Administrative Code and Article 6673b, Vernon's Civil Statutes, will maintain and operate said lighting system once constructed; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ! ;,` ! Section 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following Policy Ends of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element: Public Safety Policy End 8.00 which states: "Citizens of Georgetown feel safe and are well protected from crime and disorder, natural disasters and emergencies ". 2. Transportation Policy End 10.00 which states: "Citizens and commercial goods move safely and efficiently throughout all parts of the City ". 3. Governmental Affairs Policy End 15.0, Focus End 15.03 which states: "The City is a strong and visible participant in developing comprehensive solutions to issues of concern on a regional level "., and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. The City Council of the City of Georgetown supports the terms and conditions of the agreement between the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Georgetown, and hereby authorizes the Mayor to execute, and the City Secretary to attest thereto an agreement with- the Texas Department of Transportation on behalf of the City of Georgetown, Section 3. Note also that this section of interstate will have SH-1 30 being built on it. This is even more of a reason to go with the 100% maintenance and electricity feature, as we will not incur any stranded construction costs when the new lighting for the 1-35/SH-1 30 ramps are built.
