WHEREAS, the existing traffic conditions along Austin Avenue at several
intersections have experienced increased growth, and
WHEREAS, the projected growth in this region is expected to increase by five
(5) percent per year through the year 2025, and
WHEREAS, pedestrians traveling along Austin Avenue must often cross this
roadway at major intersections, and
WHEREAS, pedestrians who cross Austin Avenue at major intersections
experience unsafe conditions due to high traffic levels and swiftly moving traffic,
NOW THEREFORE, BE # THE CITY COUNCIL
THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this
resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by
reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City
Council hereby finds that this resolution implements Transportation Policy End 10.00 of
the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element that states; "Citizens and commercial, goods move
safely and efficiently throughout all parts of the City. "; and further finds that the adoption
of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any oth_r Century Plan Policies, as
required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan.
SECTION 2_ The City of Georgetown officially requests that the Texas
Department of Transportation install pedestrian crossing signals to be located at the
intersections of. Austin Avenue at University drive; Austin Avenue at Williams Dave;
and Austin Avenue at F.M. 971, allowing all pedestrians traveling along Austin Avenue
to safely cross the roadway.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
