WHEREAS, the Williamson County Art Guild is a not- for - profit 501 (C) (3) organization,
operated exclusively for education and charitable purposes, and the mission is to stimulate
maximum interest in education in the arts in Williamson County; and
WHEREAS, the Williamson County Art Guild has been an important part of the
Georgetown community since it was founded in 1976, with over 60% of its membership residing
in Georgetown; and
WHEREAS, the Art Guild has been and continues to be active in community events
including the Art Walk on the Square for May Fair and the Christmas Stroll; and
WHEREAS, members of the Art Guild provide many hours of volunteer service working
with youth -at -risk at the Lott Juvenile Detention Center, and with Georgetown Independent School
District elementary and high school student programs; and
WHEREAS, the Guild provides an ongoing scholarship fund for aspiring art students; and
WHEREAS, the Guild provides monthly public education programs in the arts at no cost;

WHEREAS, art in its various forms and the opportunity to study and create art, increases
the attractiveness of a community as a place to live and visit, and can bring positive recognition
to a community; and
. WHEREAS,the Williamson County Art Guild proposes to build a Cultural Arts Center
in Georgetown, to include space for art education, a permanent art gallery and exhibit space,
space for traveling art shows and civic meetings, and a sculpture garden along a hike and bike
trail; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Board, at their meeting on January 14, 1999, voted
to recommend to the City Council that the Center be built on parkland beside the VFW at Colleg e
and 2nd Street;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:

SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are
found to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part
hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the
following policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element:
1. Economic Development Focus End 1. 11, which states, "The tourism industry in
Georgetown is developed and promoted, while preserving the community's small -town charm. "
2. Education Policy End 2. 0, which states, "Diverse and comprehensive educational
opportunities are available through public and private cooperative efforts."
3. Growth and Physical Development Policy End 7.0, which states, "Georgetown's
land uses support economic, cultural and social activities for all residents, businesses and
organizations; and the City's development process encourages new and infill development. "
4. Recreation and Cultural Affairs Policy End 11.0, which states, "All citizens
actively participate in community -wide social, cultural, and recreational activities."
SECTION 2. The City supports the establishment of a Cultural Arts Center to be located
on City parkland on College Street, and as funds are available and plans progress for the Center,
staff is hereby authorized to negotiate a land lease with the Williamson County Art Guild for the
parkland.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
