REVIEW OF PROPERTY AND SURROUNDING f! 1
HISTORIC EXAMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF EXPANDING THE BOUNDARIES OF
THE AND REVIEW THE FEASIBILITY

WHEREAS, Georgetown is well known throughout the state as a Texas Main Street
City with emphasis on historic preservation and urban design; and
WHEREAS, Georgetown received a Great American Main Street Award in 1997;

WHEREAS, Hewlett Chevrolet is a dominant facility within the downtown business
district; and
WHEREAS, Hewlett Chevrolet is relocating to Interstate 35 and will leave a void in
the downtown business district; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown City Council desires to ensure that re -use of the
property is compatible with the historical aspects of the community and land uses are
compatible within the Central Business District.
NOW, THEREFORE, RESOLVED
OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution
are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference
herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby
finds that this resolution implements the following policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan
Element:
1. Economic Development Focus End 1..8, which states: "the downtown is an
economically viable component of the retail and business community."
2. Growth and Physical Development Policy End 7.0, which states:
"Georgetown's land uses support economic, cultural, and social activities for all residents,
businesses and organizations; and the City's development process encourages new and
infill development."
3. Urban Design Policy End 13.0, which states: "Georgetown has a positive,

identifiable image and an attractive appearance."
SECTION 2. The City staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission are hereby
instructed to initiate a zoning review of the Hewlett property to ensure public review and
potential land uses compatible with the Georgetown Central Business District.
SECTION 3. The City staff and the Historic Preservation Commission are instructed
to examine the feasibility of expanding the boundaries of the Historic District to ensure
adequate design controls to preserve the historic nature of the community and include the
Hewlett property and other properties in the area in its analysis.
SECTION 4. The staff is instructed to review the feasibility of establishing a fire
district for the Central Business District to allow for more orderly development in that area
consistent with the historic nature of the buildings.
SECTION 5. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to
attest thereto this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown.
SECTION 6 This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
