Director's Report
Director Lashley noted the Downtown Master Plan meeting scheduled for
Tuesday, September 17 is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM and not 6:00 PM as
stated on the agenda handout.
Lashley reported circulation was slightly up over the previous year, but visitations
were slightly down. Lashley reported September is the last month of the fiscal
year and so far the library has circulated more than 10,000 e -books and more
than 1,800 downloadable audio books through OverDrive. Circulation for the
WOWmobile has exceeded 21,000 items.
The director reported the annual Art Hop show is currently hung in the library as
well as Cianfrani's Coffee Shop, Artisans Connect, the Monument Market, and
the Williamson Museum.
Lashley announced Sheri Miklaski has resigned as the Assistant Library Director
to take the position of Library Director at the Anacortes Public Library in
Anacortes, Washington. The staff will be having a party for Sheri on Friday,
September 20.
Director Lashley reported that more than 80 people attended the Friends of the
Library's annual membership meeting. Slight changes to the bylaws were made
and new officers and board members were elected at the meeting. Linda Nix,
Dave Ciambrone and Lois Case attended. Linda noted there are now more than
650 members.
Lashley announced that the City's budget has been finalized and there are funds
for a new parking lot across the street from the library. This is a long awaited
improvement.
Lashley also announced that Linda Nix and he would be attending the annual
CTLS (Connecting Texas Libraries Statewide) meeting on Friday, September 20,
2013 in Pflugerville. Linda will give a report at the October board meeting.
Lashley read the patron comments from August.
Consideration of and possible action on the following:
1. Art Center Update — Eric Lashley: Lashley reported that Georgetown Art
Works held a successful Sneak Peek party at the Art Center and
Thundercloud on September 14. Eric distributed a postcard announcing
the Art Center's first show -- Museum Anatomy by the artists Chadwick
and Spector. Georgetown Art Works hopes to open the Art Center in early
October.
2. Downtown Master Plan Steering Committee — Eric Lashley: Chair Nix has
been invited to be a member of the Downtown Master Plan Committee
and plans to serve unless there is a scheduling conflict with her other
activities.
3. Banned Book Month — Eric Lashley: Lashley announced the library had
been promoting Banned Book Month with a display of books that have
been banned at various times throughout the U.S. Lashley noted there
have been some interesting comments by patrons concerning the display
and the vast majority of those who comment are in support of free speech.
4. IMLS award application — Eric Lashley: Director Lashley announced the
library will be applying for the Institute of Museum and Library Services
national award. Ten libraries and ten museums are given the award each
year for outstanding services to their communities. This is one of the most
prestigious awards for libraries. Bethni King visited a 2012 recipient in
Iowa while she was on vacation and she thought our library was just as
strong as the Iowa library. The application deadline is October 15, 2013.
5. Assistant Library Director position — Eric Lashley: With the resignation of
Sheri Miklaski, the library has posted the Assistant Library Director
position and has received a strong pool of candidates. Interviews will be
conducted the last week of September and the library hopes to have the
new person in place by mid-October.
6. Pates of future board meetings — Eric Lashley: The next board meeting
will be held October 21, 2013. Mark Bobinger will be unable to attend.
Chair Linda Nix adjourned the meeting at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
