MINUTES 8:30 A.M. – FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2013 WILLIAMSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 710 S. MAIN ST. 2ND FLOOR NORTH CONFERENCE ROOM, GEORGETOWN, TEXAS Board Members Present: Cindy Harrington, Julie Laderach, Linda McCalla, Marcy Urban, David Kellerman and Jim Wilson Board Members Absent: Amanda Parr Guests Present: Marta Schrader, 1003 S. Austin Ave. City Staff Present: Shelly Hargrove, Main Street Manager; Jack Daly, Executive Assistant 1. The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Board Chair David Kellerman. 2. Correction for minutes: Jim did Promotions Committee report, not Cindy. Jim moved for approval with changes. Marcy seconded. All board members present approved (6-0). 3. Guest Marta Schrader with The Screen Door (1003 S. Austin Ave.) is applying for a façade ($428) and sign ($500) grants totaling $928 to repair the awning and have one hanging sign and one sign on the north wall. The signs will be wood with vinyl letters. Opening is scheduled for the last Monday in August. Linda moved to approve the $928 façade and sign grants, Julie seconded. All board members present approved (6-0). 4. Jack gave HARC update. Three HARC downtown projects scheduled for August 22 - 124 E 8th Street (Nonna's) for final approval; 606 S. Myrtle (four little houses north of the church) for exterior alterations, and 1000 South Austin Avenue (Texas Car Title Loans) for exterior paint. No Sign Subcommittee for August 12 or August 22. Recently approved HARC cases include bandstand/ATM at Monument Café; signage for Wonderful Things (The Screen Door) location; and Camille & Co. Downtown Master Plan Update - 96 people attended the first public meeting on Tuesday. Our next public meeting is scheduled for Sept 17th. The online survey received 194 responses and will remain open until August 15. Survey can be found at http://dtmasterplan.georgetown.org. We have tentatively scheduled a public meeting regarding ways to encourage more B&Bs in Georgetown for August 28th. More details will be available next week. The calendar wrap party is being finalized and is tentatively at El Monumento in September. Calendars will be sold at the party for $10 and the goal is to be sold-out by September 30. b. Economic Restructuring: Marcy reported that the next Breakfast Bites on August 28 will be a panel of young, entrepreneurial women including Carly, Becca, Elizabeth, Kimi and Brooklyn and will be marketed using flyers and posters around the Square (specifically at CVB and Monument Market). The posters also need to be distributed to SU juniors and seniors. There is a trip planned in October for the Main Street Board to go to Granbury to learn more about the successes they have had with art on their square. Arts & Culture Board and CVB Board will also be invited to join. Granbury is also the site of the 2014 TDA conference. 2013 TDA is coming up on November 5- 8 in Bastrop. El Monumento and All Things Kids have been nominated for President’s Awards. Julie discussed her meeting with JD Janda at GISD. They are very excited to partner with the City and will be working with schedules and students soon to get performers out and about on the square. The performers could be anything from theater to small ensembles. The goal would be to get audiences to performers who have historically had limited exposure at school. Main Street needs to follow-up with an email to GISD thanking them for their time. Jim has been talking with Little Loft and Pink Poppy regarding façade grants. The College Town Committee is looking forward to the SU Pep Rally on Sept. 6 and Parade on Nov. 1st. SU representatives walked the square speaking with each merchant about the upcoming events. So far they have received zero negative feedback. The SU Football Coach’s Show has been growing in popularity. This last show had over 2000 online views and Burger University was packed. The next show is scheduled for August 28 at 8PM. SU is contemplating using new Pirate Buc$ machines. When a decision is made City needs to updated to help plan for upcoming Pirate Buc$ programs Marcy discussed the updated database. They may need a tutorial from Shirley or Vicki to be able to use it to its fullest. She also updated on new business packets which will be ready next month for new businesses on the square. c. Design: Julie reported that the mural project easement may be delayed and the unveiling of the mural will be at Swirl. The call for artists is scheduled for November. The holiday lighting contest will be starting next Wednesday. The Design Committee is currently collecting ideas for window decorations for the vacant buildings around the square. Linda reported that the holiday lighting invitation to bid went out. It will be closing on August 16. So far the City has only raised $700 from electric providers. The city will be following up with phone calls and possibly another letter. Linda has been talking with Bank of America about participating in the holiday lighting and DGA. DGA has agreed to donate $1,500. People can donate online for the holiday lighting and Shelly will provide the link. Letters will go out to local businesses to fundraise and Linda asked that the board ask their contacts to donate as well as reach out to other city boards and commissions and organizations to donate to the holiday lighting. d. Promotion: Cindy reported that Chet Garner will receive the Main Street Star Award, an award for people who have promoted and done something special for downtown. They are going to try to present the award at the next Breakfast Bites Shelly reported on the upcoming Ladies Nite Out. Janice Jacoby and Martine Rousseau are the lead contacts for that event. It will be Nov. 21st from 5-9 PM. The goal is to include 30 downtown businesses to provide drinks, snacks, and a gift/service geared towards women and ties the whole event to Small Business Saturday. The theme will be prohibition/speak easy with craft cocktails. Gift bags will be sold for $10 and will include coupons that will encourage business on Small Business Saturday. Promotion will be done in Round Rock and North Austin and handouts will be available at Breakfast Bites. Cindy reported that El Monumento will be doing a Mixology Wednesday fundraiser for Main Street on Oct. 16. The funds will go towards holiday lighting. Monument will promote the event and possibly provide music. Swirl will have Marissa and Joe Austin as honorary chairs. Graphics are currently being developed. The planning process has already begun, and a major goal is to shorten lines. Grace Heritage Church and the Art Center will be additional stops this year. Consistent wine pours and wine sales need to be promoted and addressed. There will be an “uncorking event” prior to the beginning of Swirl – possibly at 5:30. 6. Shelly gave staff report that no commitments have been made regarding the Chupa Rosa building. Garden Path and Brazos Collection will be available locations starting at the end of the year. SU welcoming event is next Friday. Main Street will be handing out 500 bags to the largest incoming class SU has had. “Believe Me”, a faith based film, will be shot at the end of the month around the Square. Kerrville Main Street will be visiting August 28th. The Art Center splash pad is scheduled to open Sept. 3rd. The storefront should be going in soon. The next Main Street meeting is Friday, September 13th. 7. Julie moved to adjourn the meeting. Cindy seconded.
