Convention & Visitor Bureau Board

The Convention & Visitor Bureau Board met on Friday, February 14 at 2:30 pm at Convention
and Visitors Bureau Office, located at 103 W. 7"' Street, Georgetown, Texas.
Members Present: Don McCullough, Georgene Richaud, Bob Villarreal, Stephanie Blanck,
and Steven Harris
Members Absent: Nancy Benold, Shelly Patel
Staff Present: Cari Miller, Laurie Brewer, Jack Daly, and Matt Synatschk
Guest: Darren Drewitz, Ray Dorton and Kimberly Garrett
1. Welcome/Call to order
The meeting was called to order by Chair Richaud at 2:30 pm.
2. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the January 10, 2014 minutes
Motion by McCullough, second by Harris to approve the minutes from the January 10, 2014
meeting. Approved 5-0
3. Hotel Occupancy Tax Reimbursement Grant Applicant Presentations
Written grant proposals were distributed and presentations were made by the following (each
organization had a 5 minute time limit to present plus 5 minutes follow up questions):
East View Softball Booster Club — Kimberly Garrett
American Junior Golf Association — Adam Rodgers (via phone)
4. Discussion and possible action to support City Council adoption of the 2013 Downtown
Master Plan Update — Matt Synatschk, Historic Planner
Synatschk reviewed the process and the Downtown Master Plan updates. Synatschk
requested a letter of support from the Board which will be sent to the Mayor and City
Council members. The letter will be sent prior to the March 11, 2014 City Council meeting
at which he will present the updated plan.
Motion by Blanck, seconded by Villarreal to recommend to City Council approval of the
Downtown Master Plan. Approved 5-0.
5. Presentation on Tourism Market Research Study Results — Darren Drewitz, Mind
Ecology
Drewitz presented the Tourism Market Research Study results. Miller has a copy of the full
report.
The top three groups who are currently visiting Georgetown are below:
■ Successful mid lifers - singles and couples in their 30s -40s and career
minded from town -rural and satellite cities
■ Accumulating families - families living in the suburbs, activities center
around the kids
■ Traditional matures - empty nesting, mostly college educated, most
economically diverse, from satellite cities
Drewitz will present the study results at the City Council workshop on Tuesday, February 25.
No action was taken.
6. Discussion and possible action regarding Hotel Occupancy Tax Reimbursement Grant
Applications
After a lengthy discussion regarding each application, the Board approved the following
Hotel Occupancy Tax Reimbursement Grants.
Motion by McCullough, seconded by Villarreal to grant $1,500 to East View Softball
Booster Club. Approved 5-0.
Motion by McCullough, seconded by Blanck to grant $1,000 to the American Junior Golf
Association. Approved 5-0.
7. Discussion and possible action regarding CVB Goals & Objectives
No action was taken.
8. Discussion and possible action regarding advertising and media exposure and dates of
upcoming events
CVB January Monthly Report is attached.

Richaud adjourned the meeting at 4:30 pm.

• Assisted with room blocks for Woman's Missionary Union of Texas Conference
• Conducted Georgetown driving tours for new City employees
Red Poppy Festival
• Obtained $23,000 in sponsorship commitments ($16,000 cash, $13,000 in-kind)
• Booked Brandon Rhyder for Sunday afternoon entertainment
• Sent out Red Poppy Festival Food Vendor Applications
• Posted Red Poppy Festival Parade Application to website
