HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_CVB_04.04.2014Minutes of Meeting; of the Convention & Visitor Bureau Board Cite of Georgetown, Texas April 4, 2104 The Convention & Visitor Bureau Board met on Friday, April 4 at 8:30 am at Convention and Visitors Bureau Office, located at 103 W. 7th Street, Georgetown, Texas. Members Present: Don McCullough, Nancy Benold, Shelly Patel, Steven Harris, Karen Soeffker, Christy Fisher, and Ray Dorton Members Absent: None Staff Present: Cari Miller, Laurie Brewer, and Jack Daly Guest: Scott Joslove, Carolyn McCall -Squires, and Georgene Richaud 1. Welcome/Call to order The meeting was called to order by Chair McCullough at 8:30am. 2. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the February 14, 2014 minutes Motion by Harris, second by Dorton to approve the minutes from the February 14, 2014 meeting. Approved 7-0 3. Board member introductions Each member was introduced and gave a brief overview of their experience. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding the nomination and election of Board Vice - Chair and Secretary Motion by Harris, second by Patel to elect Benold as Vice Chair. Approved 7-0 Motion by Patel, second by Harris to elect Dorton as Secretary. Approved 7-0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding board meeting time, day, and location Motion by Harris, second by Benold to move meeting date and time to the 3rd Friday at 8:30 am in the CVB Conference Room. Approved 7-0. 6. Review and discussion of the City Council Attendance Policy for Board Members Miller reminded members that they must attend 75% of the regular meetings. Exceptions will be made when absences are due to illness. 7. Presentation regarding the Proper Use of Hotel Occupancy Tax— Scott Joslove, Texas Hotel and Lodging Association (THLA) Carolyn McCall -Squires from THLA informed the Board that the CVB is now providing THLA membership for all Georgetown lodging properties. She reviewed the benefits of the membership which includes listing on traveltex.com, texaslodging.com and tourtexas.com, free legal advice, legislative representation, and numerous training opportunities. Scott Joslove updated the Board on the legal use of Hotel Occupancy Tax. Joslove reviewed the two part test which must be met for every expenditure. "What Cities Need to Know to Administer Municipal Hotel Occupancy Taxes" handout was distributed. 8. Discussion and possible action regarding Tourism Market Research Study next steps No action was taken. 9. Discussion and possible action regarding CVB Goals & Objectives No action was taken. 10. Discussion and possible action regarding advertising and media exposure and dates of upcoming events CVB March Monthly Report is attached. 11. Adjourn McCullough adjourned the meeting at 10:49am.
