A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, REQUESTING THE REDUCTION OF THE SPEED LIMIT ON IH35
WITHIN THE WORK ZONE OF THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION OVERLAY PROJECT ON INTERSTATE 35 FROM
NORTH LOOP IN GEORGETOWN TO THE BELL COUNTY LINE.
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation is currently planning an overlay project for
the main lanes of Interestate 35 from North Loop in Georgetown to the Bell County Line; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation needs a Minute Order from the Texas
Transportation Commission to reduce the speed limit through the work zone from 65 miles per hour to 55
miles per hour; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation Commission requires concurrence ofthe City Council of the City
of Georgetown for such speed changes in the work zone;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolutionare hereby
found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a
part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the
following policy or policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element:
Transportation Policy End 12.0, which states: "Georgetown's transportation
system provides for the safe and efficient movement of traffic, promotes the
economic interests of the community, and adequately serves the needs of
individuals."
SECTION 2. The Texas Department of Transportation is hereby requested to post a work zone
speed limit, reducing the speed limit on Interstate 35 from 65 to 55 miles per hour within the City Limits
of Georgetown as a part of the overlay project for the main lanes of Interstate 35.
SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to attest thereto
this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown.
SECTION 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
