A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING AND AUTHORIZING
PARTICIPATION WITH A COMMUNITY TASK FORCE ON TEEN
PREGNANCIES IN THE GEORGETOWN AREA.
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Health District and Georgetown Independent School
District have initiated a partnership with the community of Georgetown in response to an
apparent increasing incidence of pregnant and parenting teens in the Georgetown
community; and
WHEREAS, there is a desire to form a task force of individuals who represent
various backgrounds and constituencies within the community of Georgetown to study the
issues and recommend a plan of action for our community; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force will include representatives from the Georgetown
Healthcare System, the Williamson County and Cities Health District, Georgetown
Independent School District, the City of Georgetown, the Georgetown Ministerial Alliance,
the Williamson County Agricultural Extension Service, the Chamber of Commerce, parents,
and youth; and
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Task Force is: to gather pertinent data and
information about teen pregnancies in Georgetown; study the issues surrounding teen
pregnancy in Georgetown; evaluate existing prevention/intervention programs and services
based on research -based best pracitces and identify gaps; and develop recommendations
for a community plan of prevention, as well as intervention and support programs for
implementation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution
are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference
herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby
finds that this resolution implements the following policy of the Century Plan - Policy Plan
Element:
1. Health and Human Services Policy End 8.0, which states: "Comprehensive,
affordable health and human services are available through public and
private organizations.";

SECTION 2. The Council has the desire to be an active participant in addressing
the incident of teen pregnancies and parenting teens in the Georgetown community; and
the City Manager is hereby instructed to allocate the necessary staff time as an active
participant in the Task Force.
SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to
attest thereto this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown.
SECTION 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
