D�' A A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN IN DEALING WITH THE TEXAS FOREST SERVICE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PARTICIPATING IN THE 1998 PUBLIC OUTREACH CHALLENGE GRANT PROGRAM WITH MATCHING FUNDS OF $15,000 TO DEVELOP AN URBAN FORESTRY PROGRAM IN THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown is desirous of continuing to implement the Urban Forester position with matching funds; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown adopted Ordinance No. 92-7 Century Plan -Parks and Recreation Functional Plan on April 28,1992 and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown agrees to matching funds of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) with the Texas Forest Service 1998 Urban Forestry Grant for Public Outreach in the 98/99 budget; and, WHEREAS, this grant will help to maintain trees that we currently own and to develop more tree donation projects and educational programs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements Recreational and Cultural Affairs Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy Element, which states, "The City will endeavor to increase the quality of life through the upgrading of existing facilities and services and the provisions of new services to meet the specific needs of the community" and Short Range 3 which states "The City will develop and execute a plan to ensure the maximum utilization of all Federal, State, and private sources of funds". This plan will provide sufficient staff with appropriate expertise to ensure that the application for funds are made on a continuing basis and further find that Resolution Title No. Page 1 of 1 the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policy, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 3. The City Council finds that the Public Outreach Challenge Grant Program is an opportunity to educate both staff and the public on Urban Forestry and how valuable trees are to the natural resources of Georgetown. SECTION 4. The City Council hereby authorizes City officials to accept the Texas Forest Service Public Outreach Challenge Grant with a match of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00) to continue to have an Urban Forester.
