HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 981124-X - Main St Graduate Cities ProgRESOLUTION NO. %%Z el- X A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE MAIN STREET GRADUATE CITIES PROGRAM, EMPLOYING A MAIN STREET MANAGER, AND DESIGNATING THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU DIRECTOR TO COORDINATE ALL PROGRAM ACTIVITIES. WHEREAS, the Texas Main Street Center of the Texas Historical Commission was created to assist cities in developing a public-private effort to revitalize their "Main Street" areas; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown first became a member of the Main Street Program in 1982, and wishes to remain a member of the Main Street Program; and WHEREAS, one of the requirements to maintain membership in the Program is to employ and provide salary for a Main Street Manager; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element: Economic Development Policy End 1.0, which states: "Georgetown's economy is self-sustaining through diversified growth, a broad tax base with minimal impact from economic fluctuation, enhanced business opportunity and job creation." SECTION 2. The City of Georgetown hereby applies for participation in the Graduate Cities Main Street Program with the specific goal of continuing to revitalize the central business district within the context of the preservation and rehabilitation of its historic buildings. SECTION 3. The City of Georgetown has hired a full-time Main Street Manager and will provide the manager with travel funding for training. SECTION 4. The Convention and Visitors Bureau Director is hereby designated to coordinate the program activities. SECTION 5. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to Main Street Resolution No. Page 1 of 2 attest thereto this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown. SECTION 6. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this a� day of 1998.
