HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 981208-BB - Resolve Downtown ParkingRESOLUTION NO. ` a ®CF" A33 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE DOWNTOWN GEORGETOWN CONSENSUS GROUP REGARDING SOLUTIONS TO RESOLVE THE PARKING PROBLEM IN DOWNTOWN GEORGETOWN. WHEREAS, the availability of parking in downtown Georgetown is limited; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown solicited a Parking Management Study, conducted by John Hickman and Associates, in 1997 and 1998; and WHEREAS, a consensus group formed to further define the needs and develop implementation solutions; and WHEREAS, the Downtown Georgetown Consensus Group is comprised of representatives from the County, City, and local business owners; and WHEREAS, the Downtown Georgetown Consensus Group has identified problems and researched solutions for parking; and WHEREAS, the Downtown Georgetown Consensus Group supports solutions for parking that also maintain the vitality of downtown Georgetown. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element: 1. Economic Development Focus End 1.8, which states: "The downtown is an economically viable component of the retail and business community;" and 2. Economic Development Focus End 1. 11, which states: "The tourism industry in Georgetown is developed and promoted, while preserving the community's small-town charm;" and 3. Urban Design Policy End 13.0, which states: "Georgetown has a positive, identifiable image and an attractive appearance." SECTION 2. The Georgetown City Council hereby supports the Downtown Parking Resolution No. 17P.1 ® *V- 49 46 Page 1 of 2 Georgetown Consensus Group and their solutions for working with the City, County, and local business owners to resolve the parking problem in downtown Georgetown. SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to attest thereto this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown. SECTION 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this 8th day of December, 1998.
