HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 981208-Q - Population & Extention of ETJRESOLUTION NO. 47oFla A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, ADOPTING AN ESTIMATED 1999 POPULATION FOR THE CITY LIMITS AND ADOPTING AN EXTRA -TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION OF TWO MILES WHEREAS, the latest official population count for the City limits of Georgetown was reported by the 1990 Census; and WHEREAS, the population of Georgetown and the vicinity has increased at a large rate since 1990; and WHEREAS, having an accurate estimate of the population of the City limits is of benefit to the community for a variety of purposes; and WHEREAS, the population can be estimated using utility connections and other means within the City limits; and WHEREAS, the extraterritorial jurisdiction is a function of the City's population, as described in Chapter 42 of the Local Government Code. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element: 1. Governmental Affairs Policy End 6.0, which states: "A high level of cooperation and involvement exists among Georgetown's citizens and governmental organizations." and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby certifies that the estimated 1999 population for the area within the City limits of Georgetown is 26,400. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby adopts a two mile extraterritorial jurisdiction, effective January 1, 1999. SECTION 4. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign on behalf of the City Council of the City of Georgetown. SECTION 5. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
