HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 970610-S - Widening of FM 2243RESOLUTION NO. 7701010— S A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO WIDEN F.M. 2243 TO 1/4 MILE BEYOND THE CURRENT URBANIZED DEVELOPMENT. WHEREAS, Williamson County is the fastest growing county in the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, Georgetown is the County Seat of Williamson County, and is experiencing much of this growth; and WHEREAS, the quality of life is most visible through the transportation network; and WHEREAS, much of the transportation network within Georgetown is on the State Highway System; and WHEREAS, the initiation of project improvements can come either from the municipality or from the Texas Department of Transportation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following policy or policies of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element: 1. Transportation Policy End 12.0, which states: "Georgetown's transportation system provides for the safe and efficient movement of traffic, promotes the economic interests of the community, and adequately serves the needs of individuals." SECTION 2. The Texas Department of Transportation is hereby requested to initiate the appropriate studies for the consideration of widening F.M. 2243 to 1/4 mile beyond the current urbanized development. SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to attest thereto this resolution on behalf of the City of Georgetown. SECTION 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
