GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZIN THE MAYOR TO SIGN A
RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A POLICY ON ADVISORY BOARD
APPOE`4TMENTS.
WIffiREAS, the Council wishes, in accordance with its principles of effective governance
to establish a process by which citizens may be appointed to the boards and commissions that
advise the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are
hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and
expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this
resolution implements Governmental Affairs Policy 2, which states: "All citizens actively
participate in governmental functions"; and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not
inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2,03 of
the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan.
In keeping with the principles of effective governance, in appointing members to
Advisory Boards, the City Council will:
A. Make the process open to all citizens -- applications will be available through the
City Letter, newspaper posting, and the Assistant to the City Manager.
1. All interested citizens must apply for appointment, including those
applying for re -appointment.
2. An applicant deadline will be established, and those applications received
after the deadline will not be considered.
B. Seek to appoint the best person available.
C. Respect the need for diverse community opinions.
D. Submit eligible applications to the appropriate board and staff for review two
weeks prior to submittal to Council.

E. Mayor shall inform the Council of his/her recommendation two weeks prior to
formal consideration at a regularly scheduled Council Meeting. If a
Councilmember objects to the proposed nomination, it is the responsibility of the
member to inform the Mayor of such objection one week prior to the Council
Meeting. Failure to notify the Mayor does not preclude a member from
subsequently voting against the nomination.
F. Establish a three -two year term limit for an individual to serve consecutive
positions on the same board.
SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute, and the City Secretary to attest
thereto this resolution of the City of Georgetown.
SECTION 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
