MINUTES
Meeting called to order at 6:05pm by Chairperson, Christine Albanese.
Citizen’s comments. None.
Approve minutes from January meeting.
Motion by: Mary Treuter
Second by: Christy Hullum
Presentation of animal services statistical report – Jackie Carey
Discussed that January was record month with 83 adoptions, huge success of “40 dogs in 40 days”
campaign – ended up adopting 45 dogs in 40 days. Art for Animals was a big success raising almost
$14,000 for Friends of Georgetown Animal Shelter. Rachel Jonrowe will get us the name of a lady that
might be a good person to try to get to be M.C. for next year’s event (someone to work the crowd).
Discussed possibly lowering the adoption fee to try to make the shelter more competitive with shelters
that slash their fees. Will try reducing our adoption fee to $50 for March, April & May and see if this
increases our adoptions. Possibly tie the $50 into a Spring or Easter sale.
Discussion about improvements that could be made to the shelter to help keep the dogs more
comfortable during the hot weather. Will research swamp coolers vs misting systems attached to fans.
Discussed the need for a “Master plan” which the board would like to see happen to get accurate
analysis about future shelter growth. Discussed the need for a multi purpose room. Have written a
proposal to Chief Nero and awaiting his reply.
Meeting adjourned @ 6:55pm.
Minutes
Animal Services Advisory Board
February 20, 2014
1. Citizens comments – none
2. Approve minutes of January 2014 advisory board meeting – motion made by Mary Treuter,
seconded by Lyle Warden.
3. Review of shelter statistical data – had record % of dogs adopted – 36%, and dog EU was only
5.5%. Had even more amazing record percentage of cat adoptions of 49%. Achieved NO KILL
again this month - 10.4%. Record number of overall adoptions – 83 animals.
Discussed the success of 40 dogs in 40 days - attributed to a creative idea and the fact that the
TV media picked up the story.
Discussed Art for Animals, and what a successful event it was. Suggestion was made to maybe
have an MC next year – Rachel Jonrowe knows a person that might be interested and will get us
her name.
4. Talked about the need for a master plan and hiring a professional to come up with the plan so
Jackie does not have to guess and give us her opinion on what the future needs of the shelter
might be. The board might take this item directly to the Council themselves. More discussion
will take place next month. Also talked about desperately needing a multipurpose room as an
immediate need. A multipurpose room would give us the space we need for meetings
(volunteer, advisory board, and staff). A room could also be used for temperament testing dogs,
a meet and greet room for prospective adopters during inclement weather, and space to get
things ready for fundraising events.
Meeting adjourned at 6:55pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jackie Carey
