HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 940809-P - Reduce Utility Connect FeeRESOLUTION NO. 9449104w P WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown has identified a need for affordable housing for its residents; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the provision of affordable housing is a specific priority for the upcoming fiscal year; and WHEREAS, there exists a program to encourage the construction of affordable housing, in the form of low income housing tax credits; and WHEREAS, private developers have made application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs to receive low income housing tax credits for affordable housing programs within the City of Georgetown; and WHEREAS, the tax credits are awarded on a competitive basis under which selection criteria favor those projects which have received local government support in the form of substantial fee waivers; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT - SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements Housing Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "The City, builders, developers, and property owners provide safe and adequate housing opportunities for all household types", and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. Contingent upon award of low income housing fee waivers, the City Council is hereby authorized to discount the $500 water and wastewater utility engineering and inspection fees by approximately 42%. Tap fees for water and wastewater Will remain unchanqed. Said fee reductions shall be awarded only for projects which have #een awarded low income housing tax credits. SECTION 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
