HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 930323-R - Founders Memorial ParkRESOLUTION A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN. TEXAS. AUTHORIZING NAMING THE LAND ON THE CORNER OF CHURCH AND 7TH STREET "FOUNDERS MEMORIAL PARK" WITH A MEMORIAL WALK CONCEPT AS A RESULT OF A RECOMMENDATION BY THE PARKS & RECREATION BOARD. WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the Parks & Recreation Board has recommended that the land on the comer at Church and 71 Street be named "Founders Memorial Park" with the memorial walk concept; and, WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the naming of the area will give an identity to the park that is coherent with the founder George Glasscock, whom Georgetown is named after and where a memorial marker currently stands-, and, WHEREAS, the City Council has found that this action meets the criteria set out in the Century Plan - Parks and Recreation Functional Plan for naming a park (page 63); and, WHEREAS, the City Council has found that this action implements Recreation and Cultural Affairs Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "the City shall encourage all citizens to actively participate in community -wide social, cultural, and recreational activities "; and, WHEREAS, the City Council has found that this action is not inconsistent or in conflict *-f the Policy Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THJ CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: .
