HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 920207 - Runoff Election May 1992WHEREAS, an ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results of a general City of Georgetown election held on May 2, 1992 was passed by the City Council on May 5, 1992 and WHEREAS that ordinance declared that in the race for Councilmember, Districts 2, nt candidate received a majority of the votes cast for such position; and WHEREAS pursuant to3.04 of the City Charter, a runoff shall be called for any office for which no candidate receives a majority of all the votes cast for such o ce; an• WHEREAS the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes in District 2 we Luther Laubach and Winfred i onner. I SECTION 1. There shall be a runoff election to be held in the City of Georgetown Texas on t1l 23rd day of May, 1992 for the purpose of filling the position of Councilmember in District 21 SECTION H. Voting shall take place at the same polling places as were ordered in Resolution No. 920071 of February 25, 1992 for the General Election of May 2, 1992- registered voters of District 2 shall vote at the Library, 808 Martin Luther King Ave. SECTION III. Early voting for the runoff election shall be at City Hall, 609 Main St., beginni Wednesday, May 13, 1992 and continuing through Thursday May 19, 1992. Said place of voti shall remain to between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on each business day for sa early voting. SECTION IV. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and instructed to provide and furnish aW necessary election supplies to conduct said election. Voting shall be conducted with pap' ballots, prepared in conformity with the 1991 Revised Texas Election Code. I SECTION V. Appointments of election officials for the runoff election shall be the same as those for the General Election. Each judge shall appoint up to five clerks. SECTION VI. Election officials shall be compensated at a rate of $5.00 per hour, and tM sifficial who delivers the ballots and election supplies shall be compensated an additional flat of $25.00. Runoff Election Res. No a6 Page 1 SECTION VIII. The Mayor shall give notice of this runoff election in accordance with the terms and provisions of Title I of the Election Code. The official canvass and tabulation of the results of the runoff election shall be conducted by the City Council at their regular meeting of May 26, 19•,2. SECTION VIII.
