HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 920544 - Tax Abatement Agmt GISDit I )WHEREAS, Williamson County ("County"), Georgetown Independent School District and the City of o• ("City") jointly resolved in 1989 to •#i and Itiarticipate in efforts for economic development for the greater Georgetown area; WHEREAS, Section 312.002 of the Tax Code of the State of Texas requires that all taxing entities must establish guidelines and criteria governing tax abatement agreements prior to being eligible to enter into such agreements; and WHEREAS, the County, GIS D and the City desire to promote economic development through the availability to offer tax abatement in certain circumstances; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and • contained in the preamble • this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and • and are incorporated • reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements Economic Development Policy I of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "The City will encourage diversified growth and promote business opportunities to create jobs, broaden the tax • and minimize the impact • economic fluctuations" and Economic Development Policy 5 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element which states- "The City will take the appropriate steps to have a self-sustaining economy"; and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent • in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2 The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign a joint agreement the County and GISD establishing guidelines and criteria governing tax abatement agreements for the • Georgetown area, and for the City Secretary to attest.
