EDUCATION FOR THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL
WHEREAS, continuing education is encouraged for the Mayor and City Council
Members; and
WHEREAS, training is expected to focus upon State/National issues, policy and
governance; and
WHEREAS, discussion of the sessions and potential local application is vital, it is
important that participation in training is done in teams of two or more.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Georgetown,
Texas, that:
SECTION I. Mandatory attendance is expected at the following training sessions:
1. Annual Budget Retreat
2. Council Orientation Session
3. Ethics Seminar
SECTION H. Training and conferences for Mayor and Councilmembers which are approved,
and optional, without prior Council approval are as follows:
1. Texas Municipal League Annual Conference
2. Association of Mayors, Councilmembers and
Commissioners Annual Conference
3. Texas Municipal League Bi -annual Legislative Conference
4. Specialized training provided by Texas Municipal League
5. Specialized training provided by the Texas Foundation for
the Improvement of Local Government
6. Regional Texas Municipal League Meetings (quarterly)
7. Capital Area Planning Council Meetings
8. Association of Wholesale Customers Membership Meetings
9. Disaster Preparedness Seminar at the National Emergency Training Center
SECTION 111. Those conferences which are encouraged, but require prior Council discussion
and approval:

1. Texas Public Power Association Annual Conference
2. American Planning Association Chapter Conference (in State)
J. National League of Cities Annual Conference (preference
to those held in Texas)
4. Texas Public Power Specialized Training
5. Workshops based upon State/Federal regulations, when focuesed upon role
of Council.
SECTION IV. All other conferences and training sessions require Council approval prior to
registration.
SECTION V. Nothing in this policy should be construed to prevent Council Members from
attending conferences/��orkshops' at their own expense without prior Council approval.
