A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING THE COOPERATIVE D,A,R,E.
PROGRAM IN THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN AND THE GEORGETOWN INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT AND RECOMMENDING THE MAYOR TO PROCLAIM THURSDAY,
SEPTEMBER 13, 1990 AS "D,A,R,E, DAY" IN GEORGETOWN,
WHEREAS, the .City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas
has recognized the detrimental impact that substance abuse has on
our citizens and community as a whole, and
WHEREAS, that impact has the most severe affect on the youth
of our community, and
WHEREAS, such recognition has materialized into a
cooperative program between the City of Georgetown and the
Georgetown Independent School District,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS that:
SECTION I.
The City Council hereby finds and determines that the recitals
set forth above are trite and correct; and are incorporated herein
verbatim, as if fully set forth at length.
SECTION II.
The cooperative efforts should continue in a variety ofprograms
to 'attain one goal.
SECTION III.
One: program, having been: Conducted during an experimental period
over the last two years in the Georgetown Junior HighSchool Rome
Economics classes, has now been implemented to impact all fifth
grade students in the School District.
SECTION IV,
The City Council hereby expresses their support and encouragement
to the Georgetown Police Department and the Georgetown
independent School District in their continued efforts to combat
substance abuse and recommends, in accordance with national
legislation, that the Mayor proclaim Thursday, September 13, 1990
as "D,A.R,E. Day" im Georgetown,
SECTION V,
This resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage.
