HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 900471 - Traffic Mgmt Grant SubmittalRESOLUTION NUMBER QC �� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS; AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION 'FOR >A TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT GRANT FOR SIGNALIZATION IMPROVEMENTS TO STATE HIGHWAY 29, LOOP 418 (AUSTIN AVENUE), AND RM2338 (WILLIAMS DRIVE) WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown recognizes that it is in the interest of the national economy to promote the conservation of energy resources and to reduce our nation's dependence on costly foreign oil; WHEREAS, the traffic management project proposed by the City of Georgetown will provide benefits to the local community in the form of improved traffic flow, reduced fuel consumption, reduced vehicle operating costs, reduced air pollutant emissions, and improved safety due to smoother traffic flow; WHEREAS, funds have been established and are available through the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for grants to local governments for traffic management projects; WHEREAS; the 1987 Safety Improvement Analysis funded by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for Loop 418 (Austin Avenue) and RR2338 (Williams Drive) recommended that the signal systems on those roads be upgraded and timing coordinated; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this action implements; Transportation Policies 1 and 2 of the Century Plan—Policy Plan; as well as the Transportation Element of the Century Plan - Development Plan, The City Council further finds that this action is not inconsistent or in conflict with any adopted Century Plan Policies or Goals; as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: Section One. All of the facts recited in the preamble to thisResolution are hereby found by the City Council to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference Herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. Section Two, 1) The City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, authorises thesubmissionof an application to the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for a Traffic Management grant. 2� The local share required by the Traffic Management Program shall be met by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation because the funded activities involve State - maintained roads and traffic signals. 3) The application shall include upgrading the signal controllers where necessary on State Highway 29, hoop 418, and "RM2338, It shall also request that the signal timing on on these systems be synchronized to provide for the continuous flow of traffic on each arterial and from one arterial to the other, Section Three, This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption, RESOLVED this ctnii' day of`1�r^� l 1990.
