A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT
OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO
DESIGN THE IMPROVEMENTS TO RM2243 AND
REALIGNMENT OF FM1,460 TO MEET THE GENERAL
OBJECTIVES OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN AS SET
FORTH IN THIS RESOLUTION.
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Highways and Public
Transportation is committed to improving RM2243 (Leander Road)
from IH35 to Austin Avenuef
WHEREAS, the Rabbit Hill District Plan accepted by the City
Council in November 1987 introduces the concept of rerouting
FM1460 to improve circulation and safety;
WHEREAS, the City Council held a workshop on August 8, 1989,
to review five alternative alignments for RM2243 and FM1460;
WHEREAS, the City Council held a publ c hearing on September
(9, 1989, to obtain public comment on two selected alignments;
WHEREAS, a representative of Wickes Lumber Company stated at
the public hearing that his company would be willing to provide a
portion of their property in order to resolve the need for
improving RM2243 and realigning FM1460;
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this action implements
Facilities and Services Policy 1 and Transportation Policies 1
and 2 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, and is not found
to be inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan
Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative
Chapter of the Policy Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to propose an alignment
which will minimize the impacts of improving RM2243 and
realigning FM1460 on commercial and residential properties.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GEORGETOWN THAT:
All of the facts recited in the preamble to this Resolution arel
hereby found by the City Council to be true and correct, and ar
incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part
hereof, as if copied verbatim.
1) The Georgetown City Council requests the Texas Department of
Highways and Public Transportation to prepare a preliminary
design plan for the improvement of RM2243 and realignment of
FM1460 which generally follows the current alignment of
RM2243.
2) The design plan should minimize the amount of additional
right-of-way required south of the existing right-of-way
line on Highland Drive.
3) In order to obtain the additional 20 feet of right-of-way
required on the we side of Austin Avenue, the design plan
should utilize the property currently used by Wickes Lumber
Company, as much as possible.
4) In order to achieve the objective set forth in 42 above, it
may be necessary to take the major portion of the additional
20 feet of required right-of-way from the northwest corner
of RM2243 and Austin Avenue.
5) Before final design plans are made, the City Council
requests the Texas Department of Highways and Public
Transportation to allow the City of Georgetown to review an
comment on the preliminary design plans.
