WHEREAS, the City Council f inds that as the seat of the
Williamson County government, Georgetown is the "Home" of the
District Courts, Jail Facility and Adult Probation Office and as
such carries a special responsibility; and
WHEREAS, the Adult Probation Department and Georgetown
Hospital/Health Care system designed a program for drug
interdiction in 19&8 that was recognized by the Department of
Justice/American Probation and Parole Association as one of the
outstanding 18 drug programs in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Adult Probation Department of Williamson Coun
has requested funds to lease, staff, and operate a communit&
corrections facility funded by the Texas Adult Probatio
commission; and I
WHEREASI the proposed Community Corrections Facility woul
offer an intensive program for the recovery of alcohol/drug abusi
offenders placed on probation by the courts, and I
WHEREAS, the Mayor of Georgetown Appointed a Committ-F-9
Regarding the Establishment of the Central Texas Treatment Cente
and
WHEREAS, the committee's recommendations included the
following:
1. We agree that the establishment of the Central Texas Treatment
Center would be of benefit to the community of Georgetown.
2. We support the recommendations of the feasibility studM
concerning the location of the treatment center as follow8:1
a. that it be close to Interstate 35;
b. that it not be in close proximity to a residential area;
C. that it not be in close proximity to a school.
3. We recommend that the City Council hold a public hearing i
the near future to study possible sites for the Center. I
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, THAT:

The City Council supports the efforts of the Adult Probation off i -M -
to secure a Grant -in -Aid to construct a Treatment Center. I
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a special council meeting on
this the 5th day of December, 1989.
