MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD MTG. MINUTES
8:30 A.M. – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2014
WILLIAMSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 710 S. MAIN ST.
2ND FLOOR NORTH CONFERENCE ROOM, GEORGETOWN, TEXAS
Board Members Present: Cindy Harrington, Julie Laderach, Marcy Urban, David Kellerman
Vicki Jackimiec, Amanda Parr and Jim Wilson
City Staff Present: Shelly Hargrove, Main Street Manager; Jack Daly, Exec. Assistant;
Matt Synatschk, Historic Planner;
1. The meeting was called to order at 8:31 a.m. by Board Chair David Kellerman.
2. Julie moved to approve the August 8th board meeting minutes, Jim seconded. All board members
present approved (7-0).
3. Matt Synatschk gave the monthly HARC report and an update on the proposed sidewalk ordinance.
The ordinance will formalize requirements to allow the City to enforce current ADA standards. There
will be a permit for outdoor cafes. The board asked that the permits not have a fee associated with
them. In conjunction with the sidewalk ordinance, the sidewalk master plan is being developed. A
potential bond for this plan is proposed for May 2015. There will be an open house to discuss
prioritization of sidewalk projects on September 30 at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers.
HARC will meet on September 25th. Cases will include painting for Diva, signage for La Bella Casa and
signage and paint for Painting with a Twist. HARC should also approve the demolition of two county
buildings for the construction of the new downtown parking lot north of the library. The Downtown
Overlay and TIRZ are also expanding.
4. Committee Reports:
a. Design: Amanda reported that the ornament design is complete. The board will be asked to
sign-up for shifts to sell the ornament at the Christmas Stroll. Eric Lashley is working with
specific property owners to shore up support for the 8th Street Courtyard. Uniform storefront
signage is up. Realtor training is pending. Matt is able to do training, the board will need to
organize a location. This will not count toward continuing education credits. The holiday
opportunities form is almost complete which will allow participants to sign-up for all Main
Street holiday activities on one form. Staff is still working on the online form. The due date for
the form is October 24th to coincide with the Ladies Nite Out due dates. The Design Committee
will not be working on utility box or trash screening anymore. They will begin working on
developing gateways on University for the downtown and redeveloping Founders Park.
October 15th is the Downtown Low-Down.
b. Economic Restructuring: Jim reported that Breakfast Bites has been pushed to Wed., November
12th. Craft Brewing is a national trending downtown topic. Julie reported that the new

business/property owner brochure is nearly complete. The committee just needs to wait for the
updated overlay boundaries and to streamline content and eliminate technical jargon. The
committee has also been working on Shop Small Saturday. Four businesses that are members of
both DGA and the Chamber have been asked to participate. Participants will meet at 10 a.m.
and visit each location. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. at Roots.
The monthly luncheon will be at Khun Kan Thai Kitchen on Monday, September 15th. Façade
grants checks will be issued on October 7th at 9:45AM. Business receiving checks are 600
Degrees, the Screen Door and Pink Poppy. The Denton site visit is October 24 – 25.
The College Town Committee was really impressed by the goodie bags, parents of students
were especially surprised. The SU Merchant Fair Day was a success, and next year they hope to
incorporate faculty and staff. The 3rd Floor has been renovated on the main building. November
7 – 9 is homecoming and will kick-off the 175th anniversary celebration. Dr. Burger will speak at
the September 18th Silver Screen Chamber event and September 19th is “Talk Like a Pirate Day”.
1000 pirate patches will be available. Please post to social media using #BeSouthwestern.
c. Promotion: Cindy reported that she was appreciative of David and Shelly helping at the
committee meeting. Kay Briggs also did well managing the Ladies Nite Out discussion. The
fashion show has evolved into a roving fashion show. There are also draft save-the-date cards
available. Staff has been marketing Sunday Funday in September in an effort to keep
downtown businesses open on Sunday. The committee has asked Kim Wolfman to coordinate
fundraising efforts for the Swirl.
d. Organization: David reported that there was no committee meeting this month. There was a
great write-up about Main Street in The Sun. Vicki and David will be leading the holiday light
fundraising efforts. A letter campaign will begin in two weeks. They are trying to raise $25,000.
6. Staff Report: Shelly reported that she will participate in a tour of the square with the Executive
Director of Texas for the Arts. The sidewalk prioritization public meeting is on September 30th at 5:30
p.m. in the Council Chambers. Please attend the Wednesday night Coach Joe football shows. The
luncheon will be Monday, September 15th at 11:30AM at Khun Kan Thai Kitchen.
7. The next meeting will be on October 10th. David adjourned the meeting at 9:33 a.m.
