MINUTES 8:30 A.M. – FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2015 GUMBO’S NORTH, 701 S. MAIN ST., GEORGETOWN, TEXAS Board Members Present: Cindy Harrington, Vicki Jackimiec, JJ Parker, Amanda Parr, David Kellerman, Taylor Kidd and Jim Wilson City Staff Present: Shelly Hargrove, Main Street Manager; Laurie Brewer, Asst. City Manager 1. The meeting was called to order at 8:35 a.m. by Board Chair David Kellerman. 2. Taylor moved to approve the March 13th board meeting minutes, Vicki seconded. All board members present approved (7-0). 3. Laurie Brewer arrived at 8:55 a.m. Shelly and Laurie gave the monthly HARC report in Matt’s absence. The HARC UDC amendments first reading of the ordinance will be April 14th and the lease with GHS of the Grace Heritage Center. The new City Manager David Morgan will start on May 4 and we have people in town reviewing our bond rating. Signage going in front of HARC includes Roberts Printing, Mercado on the Square, Lone Star Bank rebrand and Sunshine West Vintiques. Sweet Lemon also going for renovation plan and Handcrafts Unlimited building is requesting new paint and maintenance. 4. Progress on Committee Reports: a. Organization: David reported that the Table on Main ticket has 67 tickets reserved for sponsors and the public , as well as one major sponsor and three table sponsors. La Grosse Tete, a jazz band, has been hired as the live music and a restaurant meeting is scheduled for the end of the month. b. Economic Restructuring: Jim said that Jeff Baker is the newest ER Committee member, the next Breakfast Bites panel discussion on arts and culture on May 20 has already been recruited by Karen Curry and our next grant photo in May will be with Gatzby Salon and DIVA. The SU Homecoming parade is coming back downtown this year. Chet Garner is also hosting the first Red Poppy Taste Awards on Wed, April 22 at the art center for the best savory and best sweet category. c. Design: Amanda reported that three holiday ornament bids are being secured. We have paid the f ee to become a Keep Texas Beautiful community affiliate with a focus on beautification. Eric Lashley attended the Design Committee meeting to discuss the current status of progress on the 8th St. Courtyard project, a breakfast or lunch meeting L:\Global\Boards and Commissions\Minutes\MSTAB\2015\15-4-10 M.doc with adjacent downtown property and business owners was discussed for April 30 or May 1. Adding to the action plan is the discussion of bringing a farmer’s market back downtown. Cindy recommended talking to Rusty about the idea. d. Promotion: Cindy said that the net profit for this year’s Swirl was $23,845.10, $5,345 more than last year. There was discussion about the possibility of not having a professional fundraiser next year. JJ mentioned Wayne with VIP Realty was not happy with his sponsorship and sent her an email. Cindy also mentioned some miscommunication with George’s on the Town as a Swirl sponsor. Ladies Nite Out planning will start up in May with Kay Briggs returning as the event co-chair. 6. Staff Report: Shelly gave an overview of some of the top downtown topics and trends discussed at the National Main Streets Conference in Atlanta, the importance of downtown residential recruitment was at the top of the list, as well as tactical urbanism. Reminder about our next quarterly Downtown Low Down meeting at 8:30 a.m. next Wednesday at Roots Bistro along with The Table on Main from 6 -9 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. 7. The next meeting will be on Friday, May 8.
