HomeMy WebLinkAboutReporter August 2015©CityofGeorgetown,2015 VOL.12•NO.8 A Publication of the City of Georgetown August 2015 SafeTrade Site The Georgetown Police Department has joined SafeTrade,a national ini- tiative for safely completing online transactions when meeting in per- son.SafeTrade encourages users of Craigslist or similar online sites to insist on “SafeTrade”by conducting transactions only at a local police or sheriff’s office. “We are in the business of protect- ing and this was an easy way for us to promote a safer transaction between buyers and sellers of mer- chandise,”says Capt.Evelyn McLean of the Georgetown Police Department. The lobby of the Public Safety Operations and Training Center is available during business hours as a SafeTrade location.The parking lot is available 24-hours.Capt.McLean adds,“Georgetown Police Department encourages traders to conduct business during daylight hours.All sales are civil matters and officers should not be called on to intervene.” The Georgetown Police Department is located at the Public Safety Operations and Training Center, 3500 D.B.Wood Road, Georgetown,TX,78628. Look for award-winning pieces from the July sculpture competition, judged by Sarah C.Bancroft,who has held curatorial positions at the Solomon R.Guggenheim Museum and the Orange County Museum of Art. Contemplation and Infinite Possibilities sculptures Summer Concerts Music on the Square Help Reduce Mosquito Threat The City of Georgetown continues to work with the Williamson County and Cities Health District to trap and test mosquitos this summer.Mosquitos are tested each week at the state health lab for West Nile Virus.No mosquitos from Williamson County have tested positive for the virus yet this year. To help reduce mosquitos and the risk of West Nile Virus: Drain plant trays,wading pools, buckets,pet dishes,and other containers. Defend against mosquitos with an insect repellant.
