Earlier this year the City of Georgetown announced that our municipal electric utility will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy by 2017. The first step in the City’s 100 per- cent renewable plan starts this fall when the Spinning Spur Three wind farm comes online. The wind farm will provide most of Georgetown’s power needs in 2016. When a solar farm near Fort Stockton comes online at the end of 2016, Georgetown will be completely powered by the wind and the sun. In September, Mayor Dale Ross and City staff toured the Spinning Spur Three wind farm during the final stages of testing. The wind farm is located 50 miles west of Amarillo along Interstate 40 and the historic Route 66.
