©CityofGeorgetown,2015 VOL.12•NO.10 A Publication of the City of Georgetown October 2015 A local supplier to the water utility industry is set for a major expansion to their facility at 200 Park Central Boulevard.Ferguson Waterworks will increase their current footprint by two acres and add a 9,000 square-foot warehouse.An existing 5,000 square-foot building at the facility will be converted to office space in which they plan to add six sales positions.The facility on Westinghouse Road is the main branch for the waterworks division of the firm.Ferguson Waterworks supplies products and services to the water utility industry including pipes and other components for water, sanitary sewer,and storm water utility infrastructure. A 60,000 square-foot building under construction on Aviation Drive will provide space for a grow- ing industrial and manufacturing sector in Georgetown.The new facility at an industrial park east of Airport Road is being built as a speculative property by Elliot Properties,owners of the nearby Texas Outdoor Power Equipment distribution center.Texas Speed and Performance,a parts supplier and machining facility for high-perform- ance Chevrolet,Pontiac,and GMC engines,is set to occupy half of the building in November. Economic Development Focus Local Water Industry Supplier Expands Building Meets Industrial Space Demand The City of Georgetown Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking entries of original artwork to be considered for promotional use for the 2016 Red Poppy Festival Poster.The artwork that is selected will be featured in a poster and pro- motional pieces for the festival as well as street banners on the Square. The artist will retain ownership rights to their artwork.There is a $500 cash award for the artist of the piece that is selected.The deadline for artwork submissions is November 20.For details,go to RedPoppyFestival.com. Red Poppy Artwork which served as the City’s police station from 1985 to 2015.Employees are expected to move into this building on an interim basis in the fall.Options for a proposed green space on existing City property between the public library and Ninth Street are also being considered. The City has hired the Lawrence Group,an architectural and planning company,to design the redevelopment project. Public input and schematic designs are scheduled to be presented to the City Council in the fall with renova- tion construction expected to begin in mid-2016. Construction recently started on a paved surface parking lot on Martin Luther King,Jr.Street between Eighth and Ninth streets.The new public lot with 150-spaces replaces a grass and dirt lot.The new paved lot should be complete in early 2016 to provide public and employee parking for the downtown area. The City of Georgetown is holding public meetings to gath- er input for the reuse of three City buildings along Martin Luther King,Jr.Street.The project called Downtown West involves moving city employees into two vacant buildings and one building that is half- vacant.Public meetings to gather commu- nity input were held in July and August. An initial proposal involves reno- vating the vacant 1987 former public library building at 808 Martin Luther King,Jr.Street to become City Hall.The Georgetown Communication and Technology Building at 510 W. Ninth Street would be renovated to house Municipal Court and other offices.
