Georgetown was initially certified as a gold-level Scenic City in 2010 and was one of 20 cities to be certified or re-certified this summer. The Scenic City program includes a variety of criteria such as parkland designation, landscaping, historic preservation, sign restrictions, litter prevention, and other standards for public places. Achieving the Scenic City certification recognizes regula- tions and programs that improve property values and help to attract new businesses. Georgetown voters approved fund- ing for the $29.3 million facility in a bond election in 2011. Rain barrels and compost bins are for sale online through City of Georgetown Conservation Services. Rain barrels are available in a 50-gal- lon size for $69 or a 65-gallon size for $106. The deadline to order is September 13. City of Georgetown utility cus- tomers will be eligible for a $15 credit on your utility bill with an online rain barrel order. (One $15 credit is available per utility account.) When you order online, you will be given a link at the bot- tom of the order form for a rebate application. Fill out and submit the application and the amount will be credited to your City of Georgetown utility account after you pick up your rain barrel. Compost bins also are available for $65 each. (No cred- its available on compost bins.) Rain barrels or compost bins ordered by the September 13 dead- line can be picked up on Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Administration Building, 1101 N. Events Live Music at the Library, Sept.20 Cactus Groove will perform jazz music served up smooth, prickly, and hot in a free concert from 2 to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. Eighth Street. The concert is a gift of the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library. Georgetown Wine and Music Festival, September 26 At this fall festival on Main Street on the Courthouse Square, wineries will offer tastings with live music sponsored by the Downtown Georgetown Association. Going Up: The first few floors are in place for the Sheraton hotel at the Rivery development. The Sheraton Georgetown Texas Hotel and Conference Center is on track to open by the end of 2016. You may have noticed a colorful new mural featuring jackalopes and an armadillo in downtown off the Square. Muralist Joseph Magnano was com- missioned by the Arts and Culture Board to create the artwork on the back wall of the 1870 Shaffer Saddlery building at 711 S. Main Street. Magnano’s design was selected from the nine proposals that were submitted. The 16th annual Garage Sale to benefit the Georgetown Animal Shelter will be Friday and Saturday, September 18 – 19 at the Community Center, 445 E. Morrow Street in San Gabriel Park. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with no admission fee. Sale proceeds benefit the animals at the Georgetown Animal Shelter.
