WHEREAS, The City Council recognizes the importance of effectively
managing the groundwater resources available to the City, and
WHEREAS, The protection of both groundwater quality and quantity must
involve measures beyond the territorial jurisdiction of the City
of Georgetown, and
WHEREAS, The Texas Water Commission and the Texas Water Development Board
are jointly conducting a Critical Area Study of groundwater
resources in a multi -county area surrounding Georgetown to assess
the feasibility of creating a groundwater conservation district,
and
WHEREAS, The City Council desires,that any proposed groundwater
conservation district be structured to most effectively safeguard
the groundwater of the Edwards Aquifer and to receive the widest
possible support of the entities affected,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Georgetown, Texas that the Water and Wastewater Committee of the City
Council and the City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to:
1) monitor the progress and findings of the Critical Area Study;
2) initiate contacts with representatives of other entities in
Williamson County whose jurisdictions are within the geographical
scope of the Critical Area Study or any proposed groundwater
conservation district; and
3) advise the City Council on such other actions as the Committee
and the City Manager find appropriate to ensure the effectiveness
of, and the support by other affected entities for, any proposed
groundwater conservation district which appears to be in the best
interest of the city.
