DEVELOP A POLICY STATEMENT REGARDING RURAL FIRE PROTECTION
AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND PROMOTION OF CREASING A RURAL FIRE
PROTECTION DISTRICT FOR SPECIFIED AREAS OUTSIDE THE CITY.
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown, an incorporated municipality within Williamson
County, currently provides adequate and reliable fire protection to it's
citizens, that the City Council is strongly committed to meeting the necessary
requirements to continue to provide satisfactory fire protection service to it's
own taxpayers; AND
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown Fire Department each year directs approximately
50% of it's services and resources to protecting lives and property outside the
City Limits of Georgetown with very little compensation from Williamson County
for such service; AND
WHEREAS, Williamson County is not willing to bear a fair and reasonable cost for
providing fire service protection to it's rural citizens, and that the City of
Georgetown taxpayers can no longer continue to subsidize the cost of providing
rural fire protection; AND
WHEREAS, the City Council is willing to enter into a contractual agreelaent with a
Rural Fire Protection Tax District to continue to provide fire protection outside
the City Limits in order to receive a fair and reasonable compensation for
providing such service;
Therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of Georgetown:

That the City Council resolves to petition for an election to create a Rural Fire
Protection Tax District for areas outside the City Limits, and as of January 1,
1988 the City of Georgetown will no longer provide fire protection outside the
City Limits except under a contract with a Rural Fire Protection Tax District.
Furthermore, this resolution is to be construed as a policy statement relating to
rural fire protection, and that we sincerely encourage citizens within the ETJ
and affected rural areas to seriously consider this policy statement in their
assessment of the need to create a Rural Fire Protection Tax District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That the Mayor and City Council hereby authorize the City Manager to participate
with Homeowner Associations and Neighborhood Groups within the affected area to
implement the petition process and to encourage the passage of an election to
create a Rural Fire Protection Tax District.
Passed and approved this ,04 day of March 1987, by the City Council of the City
of Georgetown, Texas convened in regular session with a lawful quorum present.
