A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS CITING INADEQUACIES OF THE CITY'S ZONING ORDINANCE;
DIRECTING THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION TO INITIATE
AMENDMENTS TO THE ZONING ORDINANCE; AND DIRECTING THE CITY
STAFF TO PREPARE A SCOPE OF ZONING ISSUES.
WHEREAS, the effective exercise of legally constituted
Zoning authority by the City of Georgetown is found to be one of
the major tools available to the City to manage the physical
growth of the community, to preserve the value of property, and
to protect the public health, safety and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes and acknowledges
teficiencies in the City's Zoning ordinance such as:
1. The relatively broad range of uses allowed in some
districts
2. The cumulative nature of the use regulations
3. The limited scope and flexibility of site development
regulations
4. Parking standards which do not reflect the variety of
parking demand factors
5. Administrative procedures which do not facilitate
flexible, responsive regulation
6. Sign regulations which do not adequately balance the needs
of business and the desires of the community
WHEREAS, because of these and other specific deficiencies of
the Zoning ordinance the City is not able to effectively and
beneficially exercise the full range of powers granted it under
law; and
WHEREAS, neither the commonly stated purposes of zoning nor
the various and diverse interests of property owners and citizens
at large are well served by an outdated, ineffective Zoning
ordinance,,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Georgetown, Texas that:
1. The Planning and zoning Commission is hereby directed to
undertake a thorough assessment of the Zoning Ordinance
and to initiate in an orderly manner and recommend to the
City Council such amendments to the Zoning Ordinance as
the Commission finds appropriate and necessary; and

2. The City staff is hereby directed to initiate the
Preparation of a comprehensive scope of zoning issues for
consideration by the Commission in
developing and recommending to the Council amendmentsntc
the Zoning Ordinance as directed in Section l of this
resolution.
