The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room of the
Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street
MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Baldwin, Michael Barnes, Lindsay Cooper, Tom Hagen, Tom Milburn, Pete Rose,
and Jonathan Sherwin.
STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director
A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. — None were present.
B. Consideration of the minutes from the April 19, 2016 Library Advisory board meeting. Pete Rose. Tom
Hagen moved to accept the April 2016 minutes as distributed. Michael Barnes seconded the motion,
which passed unanimously.
C. Consideration of Library Director's Report. — Eric Lashley. Lashley reviewed April's statistics and events
with the board, noting that library staff attended the Public Library Association and Texas Library
Association's Conferences. Lashley shared the presentation he gave with librarians from Lake Travis,
Southlake, and Coppell called, "Spinning Plates: Balancing the Budget as Collection Formats Multiply."
Lashley also noted that Cienfuegos will return in June to perform in the Live Music at the Library series.
The group last played at the library for the 50th Anniversary Gala in March. There will be a Dr. Seuss
lecture by Gregg Philipson at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, in collaboration with the Dr. Seuss exhibit in
the library. The Children's Services staff will put on a puppet show Saturday, May 21 at 3 p.m. During May
the library will roll out a 2 new adult programs: Coloring Circle and Games for Grownups will each take
place twice a month. Lashley read patron comments from the library's suggestion box.
D. Strategic Plan Update overview. — Eric Lashley. Lashley shared a survey that the Anacortes Public
Library (Anacortes, Washington) is currently using in the development of their strategic plan. Board
members reviewed the questions and discussed how a similar survey could be used in Georgetown. Rose
commented that the survey should be done both via the Internet and with paper copies. Hagen noted that
the survey should consider features that libraries will have in the next 10 years and use the survey to
educate and capture the evolution of libraries. Board members discussed future development of the City
and discussed possible locations of a future branch library. Lashley offered to invite Sofia Nelson (Director
of the City's Planning Department), to come and speak to the board about where future development will
happen in the city and extra territorial jurisdiction.
E. Consideration of future board meetings. — Eric Lashley. The next Library Advisory Board meeting
will be Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
Chair Rose adjourned the meeting at 7:20 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
