The members of the Georgetown Library Advisory Board want to bring to your attention the
recent recognition given to Eric Lashley, Library Director by the Texas Library Association. Each
year the Texas Library Association selects 24 librarians from across Texas to attend the Texans
Leadership Institute (TALL -Texas Library Association -Texas Accelerated Library Leaders Institute).
This is a competitive selection process and many participants apply numerous times in an effort
to be selected as an attendee. In addition, the Texas Library Association selects only four
mentors from across Texas to work with these librarians for five days of intensive training.
This intensive training includes all aspects of leadership: values, ethics, risk taking, effective
interpersonal relationships, positive communications, creating a positive work culture,
empowerment, negotiations, and community engagement.
Because of Eric's recognized achievements he was selected as one of four mentors for the Texas
Library Association's Texas Accelerated Library Leaders Institute held on June 12-16, 2016.
The changing role of the Georgetown Public Library requires many new improved skills and
management techniques in order to meet the needs of our community. Eric Lashley is a great
asset to our community and his versatility in meeting these new challenges greatly benefits our
Library and our community.
Sincerely,
Pete Rose, Chair — Library Advisory Board
