HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ARTAB_01.17.2017Minutes of the meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas January 17, 2017 The Arts and Culture Board will meet on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in Classroom 211 of Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th Street PRESENT: Gary Anderson, Jane Estes, Laura Sewell, Carol Watson and Linda Wilde ABSENT: Tim Fleming, Betty Ann Sensabaugh STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director, Dana Hendrix- Fine Arts Librarian, Lawren Weiss - Administrative Assistant OTHERS PRESENT: Travis James- TXP, Inc. representative and Amanda Still- Citizen Vice Chair Anderson called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. A. Citizens wishinq to address the Board. —Gary Anderson, Vice Chair. As of the deadline, no persons were signed up to speak on items other than what was posted on the agenda. B. Consideration and possible action to approve minutes of the November 15, 2016 Arts and Culture Board meeting. —Gary Anderson, Vice Chair. Motion by Watson; second by Sewell to approve the November 2016 minutes. Approved 5-0 (Fleming and Sensabaugh absent). C. Report on arts and culture Economic Impact Study. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley introduced Travis James with TXP, Inc. who is the consultant working with City staff to conduct the arts and culture economic impact study. The study will measure 10 categories: Visual arts, performing arts, education, video/motion picture, non-profit arts & culture organizations, live music, retail companies for art supplies, festivals, marketing, and public/for rent performing arts spaces. James discussed 5 focus areas with the Board: downtown, tourism, non-profit arts, artists and education. Surveys must go out soon in order to compile results and present to City Council by deadline. TXP will create two online surveys with 10 questions each. No action required. D. Report on Creative Georgetown event. —Dana Hendrix, Fine Arts Librarian. February 11, 2017 Creative Georgetown will take place in library's meeting rooms. Hendrix discussed the event schedule and presenters and invited all board members to attend. There will be an opportunity for participants to take surveys for the Economic Impact Study during the event. No action required. E. Report on Georgetown Art Works Advisory Board, and Arts Advocacy Day. —Jane Estes, board member. Estes reported that Georgetown Art Works created an advisory board that will provide support and structure to the organization, as well as define roles of the office assistant hired by GAW. Estes announced that February 9 is Arts Advocacy Day. Texans for the Arts will host an event at the State Capitol. Tickets are $35 which includes a lunch and happy hour. Itinerary for the day is online. No action required. F. Consideration of future meeting dates. —Gary Anderson, Vice Chair. The next meeting will be February 21, 2017 at 4:30 pm.
