HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 02.12.1980 - Flood ControlA RESOLUTION REQUESTING IMMEDIATE COMMENCEMENT OF A FLOOD CONTROL AND WATER CONSERVATION PRO- JECT ON THE SOUTH FORK OF THE SAN GABRIEL. . WHEREAS, the United States Army Corps of Engineers is nearing completion of its current projects on the San Gabriel River near Granger and on the North Fork of the San Gabriel River near Georgetown, and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown recognizes and applaudes the efforts thus far expended on these projects, and WHEREAS, the heed exists for further protection of lives and property along the San Gabriel River through flood control and, WHEREAS, there is a need for an abundant supply of surface water for the burgeoning population of Georgetown and the surrounding area, and WHEREAS, the rapid growth of the general populace as well as the broad- based economic growth of the county call for foresight in planning for the essential needs of people and industry, and '-4 WHEREAS, the development of the South Fork area is under way and can be .Y• expected to rapidly proceed with current population trends and :c7 WHEREAS, this growth will cause an escalation of property values and therefore will result in the increased cost of a project on the South Fork and WHEREAS, for these reasons the need for immediate commencement of a project on the South Fork is manifest, NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved, ordered and decreed that: The City Council of The City of Georgetown, Texas, supports and urges the immediate commencement of a flood control and water conservation project on the South Fork of the San Gabriel.
