HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ARTAB_08.15.2017Minutes of the meeting of the Arts and Culture Board City of Georgetown, Texas August 15, 2017 The Arts and Culture Board will meet on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room of Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8t" Street PRESENT: Jane Estes, Tim Fleming, Wes Odell, Laura Sewell, Carol Watson and Linda Wilde. ABSENT: Sharon Snuffer STAFF PRESENT: Eric Lashley- Library Director, Dana Hendrix -Fine Arts Librarian Lawren Weiss - Administrative Assistant, and Eric Johnson, Capital Improvement Manager. Chair Estes called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. A. Citizens wishing to address the Board. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. None. B. Report from Capital Improvement Manager Eric Johnson regarding art opportunities in the new Citv Hall and Municipal Court buildings. — Eric Lashley, Library Director and Eric Johnson, Capital Improvement manager. Johnson reviewed plans for the Downtown West project and noted spaces for the Arts & Culture Board to provide ideas for public art. Johnson would like the Board's feedback within the next few months, prior to construction beginning in December. No action taken. C. Announcements regarding arts and culture in Georgetown. —Jane Estes, Board Chair. Board members announced upcoming arts and culture events at Southwestern University, Georgetown ISD, and St. David's Hospital. D. Consideration of minutes from the July 18 2017 Arts and Culture Board meeting. —Jane Estes, Board Chair. Motion by Tim Fleming; second by Sewell to approve minutes from the July 18, 2017 Arts and Culture Board meeting. Approved 6-0 (Snuffer absent). E. Report on Texas Commission on the Arts cultural district review process. — Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley report on this next month. No action taken. F. Review of the monthly report from Georgetown Art Works. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. GAW submitted the report but library staff were not able to print a copy for the board due to printer complications. Weiss will email report to the board. No action required. G. Consideration and possible action to accept art donation from Sherry Adamo. —Dana Hendrix, Fine Arts Librarian. Odell moves; Sewell seconds to accept Back in the Game, a painting by Sherry Adamo. Approved 6-0 (Snuffer absent). H. Review of current City of Georgetown arts and culture budget for fiscal year 16-17. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley reported that the remaining arts and culture budget needs to be spent by the end of September (attachment). He asked the Board to rank items and projects they felt are most important for the City to pursue. No action required. Report on proposed City of Georgetown arts and culture budget for 2017-2018 fiscal year. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley asked the Board to rank items and projects they felt are most important for the City to pursue in the next fiscal year (attachment). No action required. J. Consideration and possible action regarding the Operating Agreement between the City of Georgetown and Georgetown Art Works as it pertains to the Georgetown Art Center. —Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley announced that the operating agreement between the City and Georgetown Art Center would be approved at the August 22 council meeting. He discussed amendments to original agreement such as an annual survey and thirty day clause to end or alter agreement. Lashley asked board to consider recommending the amended agreement to council. Motion by Sewell, second by Wilde to recommend the renewal of amended operating agreement with Georgetown Art Works. Approved 6-0 (Snuffer absent). K. Consideration and possible action regarding future arts and culture proclamations. — Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley asked the board to approve proclamations for Anabelle Richardson and Mikaela Simmang, GISD students who won national awards for their artwork. Motion by Fleming, second by Sewell to support proclamations for above mentioned GISD students. Approved 6-0 (Snuffer absent). L. Consideration future meeting dates. — Jane Estes, Board Chair. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 4:30 P.M. Fleming will be absent. No action taken. These Austin artists have a great following and Shawn's "cave" at the art center has been covered by Austin American Statesmen and other media outlets. Notes About August and future • The 2018 exhibit schedule is attached as well as the 2017 calendar. Minor changes to come to 2018 schedule and we will send coming soon. • Art Hop begins September 29th, our 10th annual, with reception starting at library and award announcement at the Art Center. Photo Booth will be there again as well. • Monthly coffee artist meet up begins October 3rd at 10 am • We will be starting Member Happy Hour on Fridays coming this week! 4 pm — 6pm • Weekly Art Camp descriptions are attached in this report!
