HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_CVSVS_08.04.2017Minutes of Meeting for the Civil Service Commission City of Georgetown August 4th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The City of Georgetown Civil Service Commission met on August 4t", 2017 at 10:00 AM at Georgetown City Hall Main Floor Conference Room, Georgetown TX. 78626. In attendance were; Tadd Phillips, Elliott Harper, Jeff Davis, John Sullivan, Commissioners Hank Michel, Gordon Pierce, Luis R. Zamot Call to Order at 10:00 a.m. Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551). A. Approval of Minutes from July 24th, 2017 Civil Service Commission Meeting a. Motion to approve Commissioner Zamot, Second Commissioner Pierce, Approved 3- 0 B. Discussion and possible action to certify an eligibility list for the position of Fire Lieutenant a. Tadd Phillips presented the eligibility list, described the written and assessment center process. Seniority is based on time in rank. The City is hands off on the assessment center process and Chief Davis acts as the main designee between the assessor and the City. Chief Davis stated that there was some radio contact between the candidate and the City. Scoring is completed by outside agency assessors. Commissioner Michel asked if there is anything else that the dept would like to see in the assessment. Chief Davis and Chief Sullivan stated no additional needs except for possibly the weighting of categories. Commissioner Pierce asked how long the meet and confer agreement was in place. Tadd Phillips stated 3 years. The list being presented will be good for a year. Motion to certify the list by Commissioner Pierce, 2nd by Commissioner Zamot, Motion approved 3-0 C. Update to Commission by Deputy Civil Service Director a. Promotional exam for Sergeant in Fall/Winter, Fall entry exam for Firefighter, Commissioner Zamot — Are the openings due to growth or attrition? Chief Sullivan stated it was due to both. One position was reclassified and another position was created by a retirement. Commissioner Michel — Does the assessment center focus on EMS? Chief Sullivan responded that each individual is trained in EMS but in the higher officer levels it is not as necessary. Commissioner Zamot — Has the Medic requirement increased diversity? Chief Sullivan stated that diversity has increased with the new requirements. Tadd Phillips stated that we now provide the opportunity for candidates to come out and practice the CPAT and have multiple chances to pass the physical agility portion. D. Adjourn a.
