HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_MSTAB_10.13.2017Minutes of a Meeting of the Main Street Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas Friday, October 13, 2417 The Main Street Advisory Board met on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 8:30 AM in the Classroom of the Georgetown Public Library located at 402 West 8" St., Georgetown, Texas The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Taylor Kidd called the meeting to order at 8:30 AM. Board members in attendance were, T. Kidd, K. Curry, V. Jackimiec, T. Tallman, K. Warren. Board members absent were, B. Nicholson, D. Gaume. Staff in attendance, Eric Lashley, Library Director, Michaela Dollar, Economic Development Director, Kim McAuliffe, Downtown Development Manager. Guest in attendance: Stacey Hudson, Psychology Major with University of Phoenix Regular Session (This Regular session may, at any time, be recessed to convene an Executive Session for any purpose authorized by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code 551.) A. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the September 8, 2017 board meeting minutes — Taylor Kidd, Board Chair Motion by T. Tallman to approve meeting minutes, second by K. Warren. Approved: 5-0 B. Discussion and possible action regarding approval of the September 29, 2017 board meeting minutes —Taylor Kidd, Board Chair Motion by V. Jackimiec to approve meeting minutes, second by K. Curry. Approved: 5-0 C. Presentation and Discussion of Downtown Artist Sculptures 2018 — Eric P. Lashley, Library Director Eric Lashley gave an overview and presentation of the 9 new sculptures that are scheduled to be installed in November. The sculptures were chosen through a submittal process and the Arts and Culture Board reviewed and selected the pieces. D. Staff Report K. McAuliffe discussed the Christmas ornament for 2017 and showed the final ornament. The card will be printed and the ornaments will go on sale November 1 at the CVB. Fagade grant totals were given, since 2004 we have awarded over $426,000 in grants. We will celebrate at the Y2 million mark. The board would like to know what percentage of the grants, specifically the sign grants, are still in place with businesses. Would like to see something related to the fagade grant program highlighted with next year's preservation month. The Texas Main Street Design Report was shown and Mcauliffe explained how business and property owners can utilize this free assistance program through our membership with Main Street. The Annual Ten Criteria Report was discussed as well. We reviewed the report from last year and went over the scores to know what areas we can improve upon for this year. She will send this out to the board for review. Updates regarding progress with project teams: a. Shop Small Project Team T. Tallman discussed the activities of the Shop Small group. Timeline of things that needed to be done. Photos were taken of all participating businesses and D. Gaume is putting together a social media kit. There will be a video to promote the event as well. Page 3 of 57 b. Swirl Project Team T. Tallman talked about the design of the Swirl girl, target to have save the date cards printed in time for First Friday in November. The Swirl Team has selected David and Mel Kellerman for this year's honorary chairs. They are continuing to work on sub groups to complete tasks needed for a successful event. c. Breakfast Bites Project Team K. Curry discussed the volunteer lunch, which will be held this month at Thundercloud Subs. The Breakfast Bites programs are planned for the 2018 year. To finish up the 2017 year, Alysia Cook will be speaking on December 6 on Secrets of a Secret Shopper and tips on how to grow your small business through customer service excellence. The topics include "Impacts from Festivals and Events", "From Startup to Store Front", "Emergency Management... Are you Prepared" and "The Underground Creative Community." We also discussed the idea about hosting a Loft Tour once some of the new projects are built in downtown. It would be an open house and have "docents" at each location to greet people on the tour. Block Captain visits this past month included Rough & Ready Antiques. T. Tallman gave a recap on the visit, and shared the results of the visit. There was also a visit with Brand Cave that K. Warren reported on. This visit alerted us to this "underground creative" scene in Georgetown, the owner would also like to give back to the community in some way and offered his services to Main Street in the future. Both visits were very positive and productive. Upcoming events: Business Appreciation Lunch & Bowl, Second Saturday Market Days 10/14, Pink O'Ween Boutique Stroll on October 28, Boo Bash/Trunk or Treat will be on Sunday, October 29, Southwestern Homecoming Tailgate on November 4, Grand opening for Sip & Stain and Stellar Bakes on 10/14. Upcoming meetings: DGA 10/27, Arts & Culture Meeting 10/17, Shop Small 11/2, College Town 10/19. The Board took recess at 9:27 and resumed the meeting at 9:30. E. Presentation and Discussion of Economic Development Strategic Plan & Visioning Session — Michaela Dollar, Economic Development Director Michaela reviewed the presentation with the Board. She has asked that the board review the questions and return feedback following the meeting. K. McAuliffe will follow up with information on this. F. The November meeting will be cancelled due to conflicting schedules and holidays. Adjourn Motion by V. Jackimiec, second by T. Tallman to adjourn the meeting. Taylor Kidd adjourned the meeting at 9:45 AM.
