HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 10.12.1940 - Boys Resident CenterPAGE SO -A RESOLUTION OF TJX CITY COUNCIL OF GEORGETOW9 TEXAS Special meeting held in the City Hall, October 12,, 1940 WHEREAS, the Federal Government is sponsoring, through the National Youth Administration,oertain Resident Centers to be located in Texas; and WEAS, it is the desire of the City of Georgetown, Texas, to bring a Boy's Resident Center to this City; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Georgetown, Texas, to make available to the Federal Government certain portions of its San Gabriel Park; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown, Texas, owns its electric light plant, sewer system and water system; and SEAS, the City of Georgetown, Texas,wishes to devote its land to this public use by pledging not to exceed $5,000.00 to be made available to theNYA; and WHEREAS, the Federal Government through the NYA program con- templates the erection of certain permanent structures on the land; and ?REAS, it is not contemplated by either party to pass title to the land, but that only the use of the land is hereby con- sented to by the City; and WBEREAS, the Federal Government, it is understood, will agree to give all permanent structures to the City when said buildings are vacated by the Federal Government under the NYA program; and WBEREAS, the contemplated improvements on this land hereby made available will immediately amount to a minimum of $100,000.00; and WHEREAS, the project gill open bids on the above structure in lumber and,materials to many local firms; and WHEREAS, when the project is in full operation, it will bring to the City of Georgetown an annual payroll of approximately $50,000.00 thus benefiting the business interests and citizens of this city; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that it offers so much of its 156 acre San Gabriel Park as is needed for the project to the National Youth Administration for the creation of a Boy's Resident Center; including the use of the public swimming pool, lighted soft -ball field and roads; and that the City further pled es 05,000.00 in support of this public project in the installatgn of water lines, power lines, sewerage and building material; it is understood that the public shall con- tinue to have the use and benefit of the public park here made available, and that said park, shall be used jointly. It is further understood'ihat the City shall own and control all buildings when vacateA'by the Federal Government under its NYA program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. M. F. Smith, Mayor, is hereby authorized to sign all documents in conformity with this resolution, for the City of Georgetown, Texas. ATTEST: �,^ MAYOR Secretary
